Savage 99 stock repair question

I just brought this rifle home recently and found this crack in the stock. I would like to repair it before I fire it. It's a 1955 Savage 99f in .308. I've seen remarkable repairs made with accraglass but I think all I may need is gorilla glue. I want to do this right and do it once. What is the best way to fix it?

Bad as it is, it needs to be pinned & then glued.

There is no possible way to get gorilla glue or epoxy down to the bottom of the crack. Unless you finish breaking the stock in two, and then glue it back together.

Was it mine?

I would clamp it with wood clamps to close the gap, then use Hot Stuff to wick into the crack and bond it.

You can find it at any hobby shop, and some hardware stores.

I would suggest practicing crummy stocks.

See if you can find a $40 410 break action with cracked stock at the gun show. My brother has pinned and glassed a lot of them before moving on to expensive stocks.

Thanks again for your advise rc, I guess I am going to go find "Hot stuff". After it's bonded together, what are your thoughts about reinforcing the repair with accraglass and fiberglass mat? Darn wood is too thin to drill for a pin but I have a little room on the inside of the stock to work with. By the way, I don't consider a question answered here until you reply. Thanks again rc!

Acraglass alone will work. Drive a wedge into the wood and apply the Acraglass. Then wrap leather treated with Johnson Wax (on the leather so it will easily come off) around the crack, place wood atop and then a clamp. The leather is used as a cushion against the wood, the wood prevents pressure from the clamp from leaving an impression on the stock. Practice the wrapping & clamping first before you actually do it.
