I am in the market for a smaller 9mm carry option and it seems like it has basically come down to 2 options due to size and cost. The 2 options are the keltec p11 or the sccy cpx-2. Now given the history of both companies am I truly comparing apples to apples or is there a clear winner? I've read almost every review out there and it kind of seems that the sccy is coming out ahead. I know most will respond saying "pick which fits you the best" but I am interested in hearing from anyone who has experience with both and see which one comes out on top in your opinion.

If the/a military/police has tested/uses them, that'd be a good indicator. It sucks to be a beta tester when it comes to guns. good luck

I'm not familiar with the sccy cpx-2, but I own several KelTecs including a P-11, a P3AT, and the PRM 30. My son has a P-11 and my wife carries a KelTec 32 as a backup to her Kahr P9. Our KelTecs have been flawless with the exception of the ill-concieved P40 which stays in the safe. I understand from others that KelTec customer service is excellent, although I have had no need to avail myself of their service. At the KelTec price point, I'm willing to be a beta tester. As with any carry gun, I'd recommend a couple of hundred rounds including your carry ammo before I'd depend on it. I have heard bad raps on KelTecs; seems you either love 'em or hate 'em. Military/police use or testing would be nice, but not likely to happen on a large scale for a $225 handgun.

From what I understand Sccy had a lot of teething problems which may or may not be resolved at this point. I've carried a P11 for years now with no issues. For my money I would go with the Kel-tec, they seem to have a more solid track record.

Is there no way you can eat Ramen for a month and save up for a sub-compact glock?
Or eat Ramen for two weeks and save up for a Ruger SR9c...

Both are far better choices than the KT or SCCY

I have a friend with a skyy every time i go shooting with him he has atleast 3 to 5 malfinctions. his issues seems to be with the extractor, when he contacted scyy they were very rude and basically said it wasnt there problems. You might get a good one but personally i would go with the kel tec or even a hipoint.

mljdeckard - I did do the Glock 26 thing for awhile and it just wasn't "my cup of tea". Definitely nothing against Glocks as far as reliability, as they are proven firearms, just couldn't get past the trigger. I actually did a post awhile ago about what I call the "staple gun" trigger that is Glock. Plus the 26 is a little bigger than what I'm looking for.

MikePaiN + ku4hx - I have been contemplating the SR9c but the issue again is the size. I'm looking for a little more smaller as my current carry is basically the same dimensions as the 9c.

If you couldn't get past the trigger on a glock 26, what makes you think you'd do better with a kel-tec or sccy?

Got two P11's and I like 'em. Very basic sights, heavy heavy trigger, real double action only, takes S&W 59 series hi cap mags. To me the heavy trigger is a safety feature. The real DAO allows for dry fire exercises with snap caps.

It was my good fortune to buy a P11 9mm at a small gun show before really knowing anything about handguns in general. My wife and I wanted to obtain our CCPs and we did. She carries it every day. It was used when we got it. Has had no issues w/FTFd or FTF.

We clean it, but aren't fastidious about it. Between 350-400 rounds since obtaining it. It's on the nightstand every night. She CCs w/one in the pipe. Great pistol for the money. Get an extra mag. Having just one is a pain.

Varying views on the SCCY CPX-2 from what I've seen on youtube and others' posts. I was seriously looking at them online before the gs. The P11 is a proven product w/issues, I'm sure. But of the 2 I'd certainly be more confident w/t KT. Longer track record.

I can shoot the lights out with my 26 in comparison my P11. There is no comparison to the triggers. I think the P9 has a better trigger and is more like the P-3AT which is still not real good.
I don't know about the other one your looking at but in a sub compact the 26 is the best I have carried.
Personally I won't give my P11 to one of my kids or other family members because I detest its trigger and hard slide so much. It is not one I would stake my or familiys life on.

I bought a P11 in 96 when the guys as Sccy were working for Kel Tec. I carry it in a pocket and have since then. I have well over 11k rounds through it. Used to keep a pretty accurate round count, but don't have a shooting routine with it anymore. I shoot it well, it shoots 3.5" at 25 yards accurate and is totally reliable. At 14 ounces, it's not heavy in the pocket and with 11 rounds capacity it's like having a service gun in my pocket.

In all the years and rounds, a couple of years ago it broke the extractor. The extractor design has changed in the second gen guns, but KT sent me one post haste and it was up and running again in a week. I have no knowledge of Sccy's customer support, but based on the extractor, I can say KT's is first rate.

Now, if I were to consider another 9, I'd go with the slightly skinnier, slightly lighter PF9 and not a Ruger or especially a Glock. :barf: The Glock's trigger is too light and too short for a pocket gun and it would be like carrying a cinder block in your pocket. No thanks on Glock. I have nothing against Rugers, but I don't own one with a Glock type trigger, striker fired. My autos are both older P guns and I own single action Blackhawks, a black powder ROA, and a 10/22. I'm not really interested in a doohickey on my trigger.

To me the heavy trigger is a safety feature.

My thoughts, too. I really like my DA revolvers for this reason, too. The Sccy has a DA trigger like the P11, but a SAFETY, which is weird, but I guess I could learn to live with it, like super glue it off.

I had a P-9, sold it to get the P-40 & loved it. Accurate, reliable as all get out, a fantastic pistol IMNTHO. I know I'm in the minority on this, but I think the real issue was limp-wristing such a lightweight pistol in .40 S&W.

Kahr CWs can be had for around $350 and are IMHO much better guns than the two you mention. I own and have owned KTs. They have terrible triggers, the build quality is pretty low compared to every other brand of gun I own (Kahr, S&W, glock, sig, colt, steyr, HK, FN, CZ, Ruger etc, etc).

Lots of people have KTs that go bang. KT is pretty good about fixing them when they have issues. Which in my experience is also a more common occurrence than with other makers. Given the build quality this does not really surprise me.

For my sole defensive carry gun, I personally would look at other options. Many of which are not much more expensive but are IMHO, significantly better guns. Shopping used can open up a lot of great deals if you shop around.

I've never even heard of sccy before. I'd buy a KelTec, based on their reputation alone, but I'd go with the PF-9 instead of the P-11, it has a nicer trigger.

If you found the g26 trigger to be objectionable you may want to shoot the KT before laying down any money on one. KT triggers are not just long and heavy with a long reset the feel of everyone I've ever pulled was pretty awful too.

I had a P-11 for years. Decent gun.

I had a sccy cpx-2. Absoutely one of the worst guns and worst company I have ever delt with. The gun fell apart in 180 rounds. I would not acept one if it was given to me.

I have three Ruger LC9. Two SR9c and one SR40C. All very good guns.

I impulse bought the first LC9 and put over a 1,000 trouble free rounds through it in eight days. It now has over 2,000 trouble free rounds.

I also have a 9mm and 40S&W Shield. Excellent guns at a low price but very hard to find.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of these inexpensive guns.

Cw9 from kahr should not be forgotten. Sr9c is probably bigger than u want but it's another good one. The only problem I have with mine is I can only load 9 in the 10 rd mag or it will misfeed the first round. May be a breakin thing.

My kahrs have been perfect.

I would go with the Kahr first and I have. I have had the Shield, Glock and XD and still prefer the Kahrs.
