Looking for 9mm for less than 600 dollars - leaning towards a Glock

Even if you got a used Glock and you had some reservations Glock will ck it out and make "needed" repairs or upgrades. And usually free.

But if the Glock is out of warranty (most are that are used) you’ll eat the shipping. And that isn’t cheap. Buying used rather than NIB doesn’t justify a paltry $100 savings. Not to mention that used guns usually have unknown histories.

Yep, I try to avoid buying most things used.
For this handgun, I think I'm going to buy new.

This is understandable with many less-durable modern goods.
Firearms are often as durable as a hammer.
This is often under-appreciated.

3rd Gen Glock 19 has a lot to recommend it. Simple and uncluttered. Major plus in that CA-compliant magazines will be plentiful (if not always easy to find).

APX not a bad choice, if CA-compliant. But, could be scarce on the ground, and the magazines might be pricey.

Holsters for either are reasonably ubiquitous, too.

Hopefully you are not in one of the more-restrictive areas of CA.

Welcome to THR.

The answer is in the post title I'm guessing.
Mine does everything I need it to do, every time.
Anything extra might be "nice"...

It is really amazing how quick one can develop an opinion on a handgun....usually in the first mag (or cylinder) full I either love it or could leave it.

I've stated before in many a post, get to a range that offers gun rentals and try a couple. This is how I learned that I LOVE the Kahr CW9s (and K9s) trigger pull. I never would have know that unless I tried it.... 20 years later I still pack a Kahr, if I'm not packing a Glock 19. From what I read, the majority of shooters DO NOT prefer the slow, long trigger pull of the Kahr....unless they spent years shooting double action revolvers, then they might like it.

I would have to disagree. My glock is a 1989 gen 2, 19. I complained it was shooting left no matter what I tried. Glock sent me a label to send it in.They found the frame was cracked so they replaced it with a gen 3. This is a hand me down from a relative who was a cop in D.C.I don't see that glock considers a warranty as much.

I'll find a local gun store and see if I can hold a G19 in my hand.

That is rather important. But also pay attention to anything that you do NOT like about the feel. Sometimes the problem can easily be remedied.

With a Sig P365 and a P365 XL grip module, my hand is wider than the grip height. As a result the bottom of the grip would dig into the lower part of the palm of my hand and it was irritating. But a small amount of sanding to the lower portion of both grip modules and some minor reshaping of the magazine floorplates, and the P365XL grip module fits my hand like a glove, and the shorter P365 grip module no longer irritates my hand, and now I'm a happy camper. I also weighted the grip modules for better balance.

If you botch a modification of a plastic grip module, they are fairly cheap to replace, so no big deal. I consider it more tailor fitting a grip module to your hand than a modification per se. Add the possibility of a grip cover to better fit your hand.

You can say that again.
THR is about the best firearms forum, or any forum for that matter to learn and share knowledge. And I never believe screen names or avatars anyway.

That’s my ugly mug, though not my real name, simply a made up one a friend gave me at 14 when we were going to become cool professional skateboarders. That was 35 years ago and I’ve yet to make a dime off my skating abilities.

6 years after my avatar picture it’s disturbingly clear I am NOT getting younger or better looking.

that’s how I look during Coofloo lockdown, but with a manbun. Now I’m back in the light and look like a professor

Don't worry about it. None of us are getting any younger. At 56 (turn 57 in October) I look pretty much exactly what I am. An old construction worker. I'm just kind of impressed people take the time to make avatars. I guess I should sometime though I don't think y'all want to see me.. Maybe I should put up a gun pic or something.

To post something on topic. Nothing wrong with a Glock. If you weren't in California I would suggest a Palmetto State Armory Dagger. It is a 3rd generation Glock 19 clone that most Glock parts will work with. While I've still never owned a Glock I do have a Dagger.
The SD9VE would also work well. The only bad thing about them is it might take a little longer to learn the trigger as it is a touch heavy. They were a good deal before everything went crazy the past couple of years & prices went up. To be honest in your price range there are a lot of good choices. The California roster is your biggest limiting factor.
Edited to add: The S&W M&P 2.0 Compact is roughly the same size as a G-19. If they are on the roster you might want to give them a look.
