Saboteur operating on armslist?

Buying a handgun w/o bill of sale or knowing who or where it came from......now contemplating getting in touch with the BATF. The story is getting better and better. If the handgun was reported stolen I hear sound of handcuffs being snapped on! If someone unknown to me was selling me a handgun w/o bothering to exchange information a RED flag would go off.

Thank God that after the 1st we in CO will have all our gun transactions handled by gov. licensed dealers so we won't have to worry about such things.

Maybe, just maybe, the bullet was never actually fired. Ever consider that? Here's what I think happened: someone tried their hand at reloading, and got the overall length too long. The bullet jammed into the rifling when the action closed, and stuck tight. They got the case out, but not the bullet. If they also did not properly size the neck at the front, leaving the bullet somewhat loose, that would also explain why there are no markings on it.

Doubble Naught, I hope you are wrong, only because that depth of shallowness would really reach a whole new scale of "pathetic" on my scale. But anything is possible.

I don't think a psycho would go through all that just to harm one person that he might never even learn the results of his set up.

Anyone remember the tylenol scare? That caused a lot of commotion.
One jammed up gun isn't going to stand the world on its ear.

How can he tell that it was never fired? What kind of marks does firing a bullet leave that it doesn't get by being "jammed" halfway up the barrel? Did he expect the base to be melted or something? I see FMJ bullets dug out of a range backstop all the time that look brand new except for the rifling marks.

My guess would be that the rest of the story is equally true.

Exactly. I pulled a 45 acp FMJ out of a tree that i shot and the only marks on it were from the rifling.

I dont know if id be able to to tell a squib from a bullet pushed through a barrel with a dowel.

Sounds more like grandpa tried his hand at reloading and remembered the primers but forgot the powder. Then grandson inherited the gun and wanted to make a quick buck on the interwebz.

I tend to not try and create nefarious conspiracies in situations more easily explained by good old fashioned dumbassery and greed.

Why would the BATF give a rats hiney about these two Darwin award winners anyway?

If I am wrong, then the claims are true. That is what you want?

There are hoaxers all over who do things that appear to not be for any real gain. They do it for attention, pride, personal satisfaction in knowing that they cried wolf and all the villagers ran as a result. It is hard to know the exact motivation for such a claimed post.

Just think of all of the email urban myths that circulate. What do the starters of those myths have to gain? It isn't financial.

If it is true and the poster really wanted to help people, then why did he leave out so much critical information that would help others protect themselves against a person he considered to be a possible homicidal terrorist?
