Looking at a simmons prosport 4x32 shotgun scope for the 444. Anyone used a shotgun scope? Figured i would get longer eye relief with a shotgun scope. Thanks.

A shotgun scope is about perfect for that gun. If I were buying one it'd go with a 1-4X20. They are more compact and at 1X give much better eye relief and field of view. I think 4X is almost too much power, useful on the longest shots, but way too much up close where the gun is used. But if that is what you have it will work.

check out the toby bridges 3x9 black powder scope by hilux optics, natchez shooters supply.should be bdc for the 444 marlin as trajectory should be the same as 50cal black powder and 45/70

I've got a 2x7 Nikon on my ruger 45/70

.444 Marlin Scope Choices

I've never tried a shotgun scope but I do agree with low powered compact scopes on lever action rifles. I have a Leupold 1.5-5x on my 444P and an old steel tube ElPaso Weaver K2.5 on my 1895G. Both work well (the Leupold is much brighter). A scope that is designed for the recoil of a 12 gauge shotgun should be ok but I don't know how long a $60 scope will last on a rifle that recoils the way a .444 Marlin does. It may work out great but I would be concerned about it failing during a hunt.

That Simmons will be great for your 444. I have a Sun Optics 2-6x28 on there now but had a Simmons pro hunter on my H&R before - moved it to a slug gun since:

Thanks for the replies!
I thought about a pistol scope, tried that before and the balance of the rifle just fell badly. Guess in could just add a round carrier on the butstock

I am also looking at one of those package deals for a moisin nagant rifle that is long eye relief that comes with 2-7x32, mount, and rings. Anyone know or tried one of these?

I've used the Leupold scout scope on my 30-30. I forget the formal name - some like IER intermediate eye relief. It has 2.5X power and is fine for hunting. XS sights makes a rail for it as it mounts about 4 to 6 inches more forward than a conventional scope. There are a few other manufacturers who make them as well and some are 1-4 power as well.

I would not bother with shotgun scope at all. This here can be used on both rifles and shotguns.....
