I tried my Leupold AR MOD 3-9x 40mm for the first time yesterday on my StagArms AR. The scope is typical Leupold - that is to say, superb - and I loved the 1/10 mil adjustments.

Since I was shooting in bright daylight I didn't need the firedot, but tried it with a couple of shots just to see how it looks. I noticed that when I pulled the trigger on a shot, the firedot either blinked out, or dimmed for a second or two, but then came back. Is this normal? I did a couple of Google searches vut found nothing. Anyone ever hear of this or experience this? Thanks-

Well, based on 80 views and no responses, I'm guessing this is a new question.

I called Leopold tech service this am and was told, unnfortunately, that this is not some sort of normal self-protection function for the electronics (which is what I was hoping), but rather a problem. So, it's got to go to Oregon for service.

Darnit.

more than likely it's something in the battery compartment. these have a button. I don't recall exactly how these work/look inside but it probably has to do with spring pressure or contact(with battery).

there's probably an easy fix that you can DIY having to do with adjustment but without any modifications.

Yes: I had that same thought. going to go to the range Friday to see if this occurs again. Non sense in hurrying since I'm past the 60-day Midway USA return window and Leopold gives a lifetime warranty.

I agree. Contacts aren't passing through enough voltage.

Low batteries can give the same effect. Kinda like shaking a flashlight to "adjust" battery contacts can get the light brighter (temporarily).

problem fixed

Went to the range today - 100 and 200 yard (see photo).

Problem recurred, so I folded a small piece of masking tape into a circle about the size of a dime, placed it over the battery, and replaced the cover. Problem solved; must have been a loose battery.
