Spent this am playing with this scope.
Mine has the Multigun FireDot BDC Reticle that's calibrated to 600 and is mounted on my Fraken AR (Larue Predat 16" 1:8" Wylde barrel, with Geiselle SSA-E Traigger):
I worked up a 5.56 "NATOish" load a couple months ago; Nosler 60grn BT at 2974 Fps from the 16" (Coyote Load) and sent the data (MV, Sight-in, Elevation, Pressure etc.) off to Leupold for a custom CDS dial. The dial arrived last week and is calibrated from 200-650Y and I finally got a chance to try it today. Shot from 200-400 on steel and the dial works great, using both the dial and BDC it's surprisingly easy to stay on an 8" plate at 400 with a decent rest. While the BDC is about .5MOA low for this load, the dialed-in hold is about perfect.
As you can see from this pic, the CDS dial is still low profile and just a hair wider than the original turret cap:
While "plinking" I also shot some of my standard 55FMJ which came out to 1.5MOA low and .75 MOA left of the .60grn load. When I click in the holdover, the BDC was spot on for the 55s out to 400, which makes sense as that's what they're calibrated for.
Overall I'm pretty impressed both with the BDC and the CDS dial. For those on the fence about either a variable power or the Leupold system I think it does add some flexibility to the AR.
