I have acquired a Remington Mod.14r in 32 Remington. Have been told the rifle was made in 1914. It is in rough condition, 60 % finish left and some pitting on the outside of barrel. The bore is bright without pitting and slugged at .321. I would like to shoot this piece and need to know how to find or make 32 Rem. I reload and cast, have molds in .323 for 8MM.
Any help on value, how to care and feed this would be appreciated. Wondering if this has any collector value or if a strip and refinish would hurt any value.

The 14R carbine is pretty scarce and desirable if you collect that sort of thing.
But at 60% with "some pitting" I am not going to get excited about collectability and would not hesitate to refinish it. Someone else might disagree, so hang on a while for extravagant offers.

For ammo, .25, .30, and .32 Remington are all on the same case, so if you have one you can form it into another. The .35 Remington is NOT on that same case and is not readily converted.

Buffalo Arms lists .32 Rem ammo and brass but says "Out of stock, backorders accepted."
They also say it is formed out of a more common case, probably .30-30 with the rim turned off.

$39.75 per 20 for 170 grain RNs from Buffalo Arms. $37.49 per 20 for brass from Midway. Out of stock and over due from Quality Cartridge. If you can find .25 or .30 Remington you can neck it up.
One of 'em sold in iCollector in 2011 for $1400US plus their (273.00) buyer's premium + taxes, fees, etc.
Your rifle hasn't been made since 1934, but like Jim says, it doesn't sound like it's a collector piece due to the condition. Might be a good idea to have a smithy give it a look first.
I have load data if you get that far.

Sunray, could use load data. I have been told Winchester 32 special dies will work, is that correct? I may remove the rim and cut an extractor grove in Win 32 sp cases if I cannot find any Remington cases. Thanks for the loading data.

Sounds like a lot of work just for grits and shins...or something like that....but I feel your pain. When I got my first 38sw I ended up cutting 38spl cases back and loading them with 9mm Mak bullets just to say I had shot it. Sounds very interesting, and like a lot of fun. One big problem I am noticing right off the bat is that there is a distinct lack of pictures.

If you used .38 special cases to make .38S&W brass, you used the wrong case. unless you resized them to .38S&W and even then there are some differences .38S&W is a larger diameter case than .38Colt\.38Long Colt\.38S&W Special-IE .38 Special. The proper .38S&W loaded ammo and brass are available as I bought 5 boxes of the loaded ammo for less than $90.00 at the height of the "Panic". Even the you have to be careful because a lot of .38S&W guns are black powder only. Some of the cheaply made black powder .38S&W revolvers are likely to be ticking hand grenades if shot very much with smokeless loads, not a matter of if, it is only a matter of when. Not trying to bash you, just trying to be sure everyone stays safe and retains all of their body parts and no holes in them. My .38S&W was manufactured to shoot smokeless ammo.

Remington's answer to the Winchester and their rimmed cartridges. You need to located some 30 Remington brass and make your own,yes 32 win spl dies will work, just like 30-30 and 30 rem are the same except for case-head style. Load data for 32 win spl will work.

I have a 14R with the bolt thumb safety and wheeled rear sight. These are great guns if you are willing to commit to feeding them.

I've been loading 32rem for years , Redding makes dies (not special order ) that's what I use , most of my brass is UMC , Peters ,and win , I do have some of the Q-C that midway sells but it is hit and miss on the quality ,thin necks, loose pockets , and thin rims , best brass is found at the gun shows , old factory stuff runs about $40 to $50 a box, I pull them and reload them with 27gr of RL-7, Rem9 1/2 LRP that gets that 170gr 32cal going about 2200fps close match to the old factory loads,

Dies are available At Midway USA $90.99 just checked , ready to ship..

if you find some old win ammo in 32rem it may have crimped in primers and you will have to run a pocket tool in them , I just use the Lyman hand tool
