Boy what an ordeal here... couldn't get old south to send to me but to an ffl, who wouldn't transfer without a permit to acquire and it's all finally over and here is my new hunting gun... I hope. I'll take the brass frame and use with my targets and kids and such, and use this for hunting.

I've two 7 1/2" barrels as well so I'm going to be curious how these all do over the chrony.

Well it's over, it's here, I'm dripping with cheer.... I'm planning initially on using triple seven with this just trying to determine if I should try 25 grains since they suggest 28 as a max for Pyrodex P and 35 with 3f black.

Aloha....

Those guns will handle as much as you can stuff under the ball. Over at the yahoo percussion revolvers forum, extensive load testing has already been done for you on that very same type by men who have been hunting with them for 3 decades. Use their data and tweak it if need be for best groups.

Hunting what on which island.. Fondest memory of Navy service in the early 60's 14 months on Oahu. Pure Paradise

Here in Michigan I used to have to jump through those same hoops right up until January 1st 2004. Sometimes though hard work we can get laws to change in the right direction.

Well it took us years to get pistol hunting legal.... this state is one of the most restrictive... Aloha...

Why wouldnt Old South send it directly to you?...their house rules or your states rules???? Now you need to get a stock for it.
Old south said that no one could ship to Hawaii a pistol without going to an FFL by their records.... so rather than argue... we went the route. :D:cool:

Thank you.... I'll look into it if I can find them... :)

My Pietta Remington seems to do best with 30 grns of 3F Triple 7 or Olde Eynsford with a ball, my 170 or 195 grn WFN bullets.

Some time back I noted that Uberti had a max change of 3F of ~30 grns in their Walker yet went on to mention how their guns were much stronger than the originals due to better steel. Go figure...

Hawaii is on the list of a few states that Cabelas won't just ship to directly (and they're usually pretty good about not just making up restrictions), and Googling around it appears that they do have some unusual muzzleloader regulations - like some of the short barrel coach type shotguns would be illegal.

With T7 FFF suggest trying 25 grs as your starting load. But with the long barrel, you should try FF as you will likely get similar or slightly higher velocities at lower peak pressures.

Well worth the wait but what an ordeal to get anything delivered to you. One would think you need a State Dept. permit to export an antique to a foreign land.
