Is there any practical difference between swaged lead bullets and cast bullets made of relatively pure lead such as scrap pipe or sheet?
The application would be light 38 and 45 loads. Most of the information found discusses different bullet alloys when using cast bullets. If a swaged lead...
The original grips are being reinstalled (aftermarket grips are in place) on a Beretta 92. The lock washers are missing. Are these just normal split lock washers or something unique for this? I'm having trouble findings a source for these. The screws seem to hold the grips on fine without...
Since the new Ruger Charger pistol is just a cut down 10/22 made into a pistol, this puts the detachable magazine in front of the grip. This seems to be one of the features of "assualt pistols". Has there ever been any mention of this yet?
Perhaps they already exist, but I haven't seen them. What would you think of an aluminum grip (kind of like the aluma grips for 1911s) for a revolver? They could be anozided in many colors and might nicely match the newer dull finished revolvers.
Same question for micarta.
It might be...
...this difference IS significant sometimes (though many don't care).
Winter boredom results in playing with a scale and a bunch of grips.

The quote says "in a given year". I read somewhere a "statistic" claiming a very high percentage (most) people have a "diagnosable mental disorder" in their life time.
Do have or have you ever had a mental disorder? According...
Perhaps I've interpreted this wrong, but I haven't noticed anyone else question it yet.
All the news sources have claimed Seung-Hui Cho "legally" purchase firearms. Of course this is also being used as reasoning to call more restrictions.
According to ABC news...
While a new j-frame is virtually the same as an old one, there are some very noticable differences between a new airweight and one made fifty years ago.
Most of the differences seem insignificant, but there are two differences making the new one easier to use.
Neither is modified, but...
Smith & Wesson's website shows a new addition. The 340ss appears to be the same as the 340pd except with a stainless cylinder instead of titanium.
Does anyone here have one of these or personally handled one? Is the cost significantly less than a 340pd?
I was under the impression there...
Help needed:
The problem is an older airweight has a broken hammer stud. The action spontaneously got real nasty. Disassembly has revealed a broken hammer stud. It is broken flush with the frame.
Can this be fixed? Must it be sent to Smith & Wesson? Can the old ones be serviced?
Perhaps it is silly to wonder about this. When using speed strips to carry extra cartridges for a J Frame, should one have five rounds in it or six?
While having one extra "wouldn't hurt", It is difficult to imagine a situation where a person would shoot all five in the revolver, reload...
I have had a desire to obtain an older plain model 36 for a while. I need a little information.
I have found one recently in a local shop in decent shape, maybe 95%. Basic blued 36 probably made in the mid 80's. Dirty with a little barely noticalbe patch of pitting on the trigger guard...
I have interest in getting a compact 1911 someday. It seems like a good time to start learning.
I've researched a little about them. I guess the cheapest one out there is the Springfield "GI" ultra compact. Does anyone here have any first hand experience with it? The price is certainly...
I have broke another Lee priming tool. This has happened several times now. Every time the chrome lever breaks. Lee did send a replacement lever once, but this time they would not and said that was a one time deal. I know I can purchase addtional levers for $2 and get by for a long time...
I was thinking.
Could a bullet jacket be made from plastic instead of copper (or other metal)?
It seems it would cost less, prevent fouling, and be corrosion resistant. The weight difference could be negligable.
Some obvious concerns would be things like temperature resistance and...
This is probably an old topic, but I've noticed most new 1911 style pistols have the flat mainspring housing and long triggers like the original 1911 while only a few "milspec" reproductions have the arched housing with short trigger like the 1911A1. I know that some of this is personal...
