Following up on another thread...is anyone here a member of Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club? I am thinking of joining, but don't know anyone who belongs, and would love to talk to someone first.
True, but lots of schools have graduate programs with older students, and there is faculty, and even some older students, especially at state schools like VT.
Oh, and my favorite gunny rant:
"The second amendenment is the only carry permit I need."
In my mind, the training is secondary. The most important thing is to have an apprecation that these kinds of things happen, and that you can't protect yourself by sitting there, waiting to be shot. Even at the most rudimentary level, that keeps your brain from saying "What's happening?" and...
Sort of a gun-free zone:
In Brooklyn, a few years back, a man from Florida who had moved to NY shot an intruder in his son's bedroom. He had applied for his NY permit, but in NYC it takes about a year to complete. It's illeagal in NY to posess a pistol without a permit. He was charged with...
My favorite "profiling" story...
My wife (then girlfirend) and I were shopping at Tiffany's on 5th avenue in New York City. I dress...casually...whenever I can, jeans and a t-shirt. We were young, our early 20's. Probably not their normal demographic. She was buying some china as a...
NRA = more good then bad.
They are struggling to be a "mainstream" organization. They are by far the most powerful gun lobby in Washington. It makes sense to support them for that reason if for no other.
Oleg,
Great idea for a poster. I'd change the wording to "Carrying a gun for self-protection". I don't think most non-gunnies would know what you mean by "carrying".
Actually, he spent the show today talking about gun control, and how it was doomed to failure because it disarmed the law abiding and not the criminals. He did not second guess the victims. He criticized the politicians and administrators that disarmed them. The point he was making is that...
This is what Logicians call the "ad-hominum" fallacy.
Example:
"gcerbone's research shows that dogs have four legs"
"Oh yeah, well gcerbone doesn't know what he is talking about. He is just a partisan political hack."
See how it works. :)
Bigots are bigots. Doesn't matter whether they are bigoted against muslims, or against gunnies. That guy has more in common with the antis then with us. And yes, it does make us look bad.
I can't believe this crap. This deserves a zumboing.
Column is here.

Still love those...
SM is right. We need to get ahead of the messaging and make sure that folks understand that this is what happens when you disarm people. Gun free zones get people killed!
My take
I'm not gifted graphically like Oleg so instead of a picture I have to use 1,000 words. :) My take, letter to the editor:
“Gun-Free” Zones get people killed
The horrific shooting at that took place at Virginia Tech should never have happened. According to the school’s “Campus...
I used to be really anxious about reading gun magazines on airplanes. Not sure why, just felt..awkward.
Then I realized: its really important that people get used to seeing "normal" people enjoying firearms and related topics. As Oleg says, the ultimate goal is to make firearms...
