I always try to keep the upper-to-lower ratio at 1:1. I bought two new uppers this year, so I built up two lowers. One is my new 6.8 SPC II deer rifle, and the other is my .223 varmint gun.
From WOA's site describing the fluting on the SDM barrel.

Properly fluting a barrel does three things:
1) Decreases weight.
2) Increases surface area.
3) Increases barrel stiffness.
Personally I like fluting when done by a competent party as I get a lighter barrel that shows less POI change as the strings are fired.
I put together a BCM Blem complete lower from G&R Tactical for $360 and a White Oak Armament "Predator" upper for $772. I probably could have saved some money buying a used lower assembly, but the WOA upper is a great deal for the price. WOA also offers a "Varmint" upper for $632 delivered...
Considering the new VX-3 is available used for $400, I am going to suggest the older model goes for less. $350 is a good place to start.

This is a question of much contention. I have read on this forum of at least one 1915 12-gauge Model 11 where the actual chamber measured right at 2-5/8", but the gun had fired a steady diet of 2-3/4" shells for close to one hundred years.
1930 is the year when the 2-3/4" chamber was...
It is one of the very few Colt 1911-pattern pistols ever chambered in .40 S&W. Not long after Colt started chambering 1911-pattern pistols in the caliber, Colt cut most of the product lines to survive a financial crisis, including all of the revolvers except the SAA and most of the unusual 1911...
I travel quite a bit for business, and I often have to fill up after dark. Here is my process:
1) If possible, use a station that is already known once you see the tank level approaching half tank. If not, use a station on the interstate run by one of the major truck stops like Pilot or...
In the past twenty-five years, I have tried pretty much every finish.
The best compromise finish for people adverse to performing maintenance I have seen for steel is Robar's NP3 as it is fairly abrasion resistant and very corrosion resistant. I am not fond of NP3 on aluminum as the underlying...
The reason Glock uses -40 to 122 degrees F is because those temperatures are -40 to +50 degrees Celsius. One can assume that Glock does testing over that temperature range.
That is way too nice a pistol to use as a car gun. It is worth somewhere between $600 and $750, depending upon your local 1911 market. I noticed that the thumb safety is an older GI one, consistent with SA using some GI surplus parts at the beginning. As such, the thumb safety may have some...
I am not sure about what percentage of guns that NYPD buys that are Glock. This is one year's data in dollars, and it suggests that, at least in 2010, Glock purchases are much lower than 75% of the gun models purchased. It is hard to be sure as not all of the guns are equally priced.
To me, one of the advantages of a hammer-fired pistol (could be DA/SA or DAO) with an external hammer is that the hammer movement can be monitored during holstering. With a striker-fired gun like the Glock, trigger movement during holstering, say from a trapped cover garment, is very hard to...
