I have one (1) Randell model 2, that I took in part trade for a Sig P226. It is almost a piece of art, and way to nice for me to use so it sits in the secure locker.
I don't use it and I can't bring myself t sell it.
I've owned four (6) 3" K & L frames. Sadly I never cared for them, all felt much heavier than my 2 1/2" M-19/66's. As they weigh within a ounce of each other, the felt difference must have something to do with the balance.
I don't regret buying any of them, as they were all high quality...
For years I was a diehard .357 Magnum fan, and that was all I would carry. I could not understand why anyone would carry/shoot any 38 special ammo when the .357 Magnum was there. Well I've finally turned 70 and I now understand why so many load there short .357 Magnum revolvers with something...
I voted .357 Magnum, as the question asked for the caliber of my EDC, not what ammo I carry in it. My daily carry ammo is Underwood brand 38 special +P, 158Gr. hard cast SWC. It's rated at 1200 FPS and 550 FP.
The K-38, model 14 would be my choice. Two reasons, I'm a life long Smith and Wesson guy. The Colt series of revolvers never seemed to fit my hand very well. There magna style grips were to small, and the target grips were way to big.
"Maybe something between a small NAA .22lr revolver on the low end to a .380 ACP mouse gun on the high end.
What is the smallest, lightest pistol would you choose for self-defense?
In the range of potions you gave, I'll have to go with bigger is better so a quality .380 would be my choice.

"I think it's got the original grips." That should be easy to confirm, remove stocks and check to see if the left one has the serial number of the gun written on it. As for a holster, any pancake style should work well. I prefer the ones from Lobo Leather.
Great score on an old workhorse, enjoy it.
I don't think it's an ammo problem, as the ejection problems only happen in one charge hole. I see two options either go to the time and expense of replacing the cylinder, or mark the bad charge hole and don't load it. Best of luck..
Fairly easy choices for me: J frame - model 60 in 38 special, K frame - 2 1/2" model 19/66, L frame - 4" 581, N frame - 3 1/2" model 27, X frame - no desire to own one.
O/P It is nice to have different options, good idea. Many holster makers offer 2x2x2 reload holders, most of which work with a speed strip. It may be a little silly but I've always liked matching leather gear, I.e belt, holster, and reload carrier.
Sir,you've got an ideal working revolver, in working revolver shape, so why refinish it? On the other hand it is your gun, so if a new finish will make ya happy go for it.
My main interest is Smith and Wesson revolvers made post WWII and 1980. I've noticed that prices have stopped increasing, but I have not noticed any large price pull back. There are some exceptions to that. I currently have a 3" 686 CS-1 for auction at G.B. It's showing a nice price run up.
The 3" model 13' are to becoming harder to find and for a good reason. Folks who hove one realize what a great all around revolver they are. I was lucky enough to have picked up a nickel finished 3" in 95% condition with the box, paperwork, and tools. Believe me it was not cheap , but it's neat...
Sorry to be boring, but my answer has not, and I don't think it will, change in years. My go to gun is my 2 1/2" model 19. These are small and light enough to carry, yet feel like a real gun in my hand.
I'll be 70 next year, and in good health, all in all. But I don't shoot nearly as much as I used to, so earlier this year I thought about selling a few guns. I ended up selling two, but bought six. So who knows what 2018 will bring.
Happy New Years all.
"I know several people that only run 1 magazine of hollow points and call it good. I couldn't possibly feel confident in my defensive ammo/gun with so few rounds tested."
I have to agree with you on that. Yet, as I carry/shoot revolvers testing ammo is not as critical Vs. an auto.
I should...
With the exception of my 4" model 28 and my 6" model 14 all of my guns are considered ready to be used for EDC. Now one of my 2 1/2" - 3" round butt K frames generally gets the duty.
Happy Holidays All.
