I read an article about hardness of bullets that explains it's like pulling your vehicle right up against a curb versus backing off from a curb say a few feet. It takes more throttle/power to jump the curb versus if you start further back, you can sustain a given amount of power to jump the curb...
Is there a hardened rule to when you need to start backing down powder charges as you seat bullets deeper or is it trial and error as you seat bullets deeper to look for increase in pressure. I understand that pressure does increase as bullets are seated closer to the lands but as bullets are...
I'm going to try to pick up some WLRM's and shoot this weekend. It's supposed to be the same weather and temps as last weekend. That would give me a control group. Well, like I stated, the load i found to be very accurate was the lowest load for that powder in the Nosler book so I left it at...
Incredible how much hotter those Fed's are! Almost 300 fps gain. Am I reading that right. I believe it's time to include primers in my load development. I read on another website, a fellow shooter shot 1/2" groups with Winchester primers and tried CCI primers and his groups went to 3 1/4".
Sam, the more I keep looking at the groups I really think it had a lot to do with heat. If u just look at the first shot in each group and then just the second and finally the third, It's not a good group, but not a bad group when u group them by number together. It screams heat on the location...
I never thought about it, but groups like this have opened my eyes to something I would have never thought would make that big of a diff. I've always used winchester primers and it looks I will continue to do so. Thanks for your pics.
Rings and bases are tight. Checked that also. Notice each shot though. The 1st shot of all 3 groups is in the same basic place and so on. 2nd shot location and 3rd shot location of each group. I'm right handed and I figured stringing would walk to the right if it was trigger pull. I think it was...
The sub 1/2" group was shot at temps in the low 50's and the (3) groups I shot this past weekend were shot at around 80 deg. We shot in the shade. Ample time in between shots. Gun was laid barrel up with bolt open and I made a fan for cooling the barrel from an air mattress pump. Barrel never...
I recently found a very good shooting combo in my 7MM WSM. I was using WLRM Primers and following the Nosler book for my load development and had discovered a sub 1/2" group at 100 yds. I sat down and loaded a few shells to now sight the rifle in for deer season. Expecting some very satisfying...
Yes sir, if you shoot a 130 lb deer after you gut it, you've shot a nice deer in Maryland. Plus, deer in Maryland don't stand around long to get their pictures taken. For many years I shot many deer with .222 shooting 52 grain boattail hollow points and it would drop them in their tracks as long...
For what it's worth, 150 grain bullets have been the go to bullets for 308, 30-06, even the 30-30 since I can remember. Slower velocities require softer bullets like Core Lokt's and/or Sierra Gamekings. The question is for handloading for whitetail deer at 150 yd max distances which means most...
I need a hammer spur for said muzzleloader. It's the earlier Kodiak that doesn't have the threaded hammer for an extension/spur. I see the newer models have a pre-drilled hammer. I can't seem to find a spur for a "round" hammer. Most seem to be for the flat hammers.
? #1-Are the newer model...
Thank You! I think that in the long run it would be more of a hassle than it's worth. Looks like it's just going to be Trail Cams and have to pull cards and look at them. "I'm sorry honey, I just have to go up to the cabin and get these cards because it's very important that I see what's using...
Thank You. I will try them. I like Sierra's for accuracy and they did real well out of a couple 270's I've had but i've heard that with speeds exceeding 3,000 fps they explode and come apart. Will the Interlocks handle 3,000 fps and up at 100-200 yds. That's usually my longest shots. I would...
Thank You Sir. I've heard of great speeds with Magpro but some don't have the accuracy they want. I used to shoot gamekings in everything back in the day but never used a rifle with speeds of 3,200 fps and up until I got this Short Mag. One of the reasons I'm reloading this cartridge is because...
What causes this in a barrel?
This is what I'm seeing. I'm seeing well over factory and advertised speeds and i'm well below published max loads. Even the factory Winchester Supreme ammo gives me a sticky bolt about 2 rounds out of a box of 20. Now, I have been told that the Winchester Supreme...
Okay, I checked the "To the Lands" measurement again in 2 ways. O used my Hornady Tool and to the lands was 2.8700". I used Sage's method with a Sharpie and I used fingernail polish just to see if it would work and it came out to 2.8750. A diff of .005 between the 2 diff ways. So I was shooting...
