    Do I really NEED one?

I've been watching on GB for one of the 44 Spl Flat Tops. Dang I can't believe the prices they are asking.

    Used Revolvers from S&W

Yup, a 4 inch S&W L frame is about the second most perfect revolver line ever made. First being a 4 inch K frame like a Model 15.

    Do I really NEED one?

Yup, I have a beautiful 25-7 S&W. In 45 Colt. Would never part with it.

    Do I really NEED one?

I wouldn't have even asked the group before buying one of those. They are a thing of beauty. I definitely would have NEEDED that.

    Do I really NEED one?

I just realized that I asked you all this exact same question about 4 years ago. LOL. I haven't given the 44 Spl any thought for a long time, but now it's haunting me again.

    Do I really NEED one?

Lately I've been thinking hard about a 44 Spl SA. Probably a Blackhawk Flat Top, but maybe a SAA copy. Here is my dilemma. A) I'm already heavily invested in 45 Colt, in both reloading components and guns to empty those reloads. B) 44 Spl is even more expensive than 45 Colt, so would definitely...

    New to me High Standard.

I test fired it against my Ruger MK4 22/45. They have a very similar feel, nearly identical in the hand. The HS is all steel so it's heavier. How's it shoot? All groups with several different ammo types were smaller than the Ruger. Not by much, maybe only 10%, but definitely noticeably smaller...

Yes, done deal! Also found some at Numrich. Wolff is much cheaper.

    New to me High Standard.

I am going to order a spring kit for it since I have no idea what the round count might be. From what I've been able to glean on the interwebs, the recoil spring should be replaced periodically to help avoid cracking the frame. Also no HV ammo. Maybe a new slide stop spring will be included.

    New to me High Standard.

The bottom of the barrel is drilled and tapped in 3 locations and has filler screws installed. I did see some pics online with weights attached.

    New to me High Standard.

Yeeeaaahhh.... so, it's too late for that tiny spring. I pulled the grips to clean it and noticed something was amiss with the slide stop. It worked when I test fired it, so it must have been there before I got ahead of myself taking things apart. Any idea where I can source a new one?

    New to me High Standard.

Stopped by a new to me LGS in a small town about 60 miles from home today. This is one of those very small LGSs that I love to stop by. Not a lot of inventory but some really neat pieces. Among those was a High Standard Supermatic Tournament 107 Military with 2 factory mags. I always wanted to...

    Who dislikes/hates the Beretta 92FS/M9?

I bought an M9 recently due to the nostalgic factor. I was issued one in the Marines, over 30 years ago, not too long after their adoption by the Corps. Although I had no problem qualifying expert every year with an M9, I never really felt like I had it mastered. As we Marines do a crap ton of...

Tisas safety recall on certain 1911 models

Ok, since I don't have any experience with our fine ATF agents, and hope I never do, I will have to take your word for it. Now what are people supposed to do if their gun double fires? Register it as a MG? Have it destroyed according to ATF protocol? Or can they get it repaired? You said "once a...

Tisas safety recall on certain 1911 models

If the user tampered with the mechanism to the point of failure, it's totally different than a malfunction in a factory stock pistol that is NOT designed to violate the NFA rules. If one purposely makes their gun full auto then of course they are on the wrong side of the law. But a malfunction...

Tisas safety recall on certain 1911 models

So if a gun malfunctions it can be labeled as an MG? So if I mag dump my AR until it gets so hot it cooks of a few rounds it's now an MG? That doesn't sound right to me. Seems like a malfunction is just that, a malfunction. ETA I have been known to ride the ragged edge of trigger reset and get a...

set myself up a known distance rifle range

I can get out to 125 yds from my back deck and still be on my property. There is nothing behind me for a full mile, but since it's not my land, I try to keep off it. I mostly shoot handguns so I do have a decent pistol range set up. It's a work in progress with 8 steel targets so far. Next will...

    A spare reload if needed

In my mind, the spare mag is good insurance against mag failure. If you get bang, click, or jam with an auto, that is mag related, what can you do if you don't have a spare? Not to mention the myriad scenarios that we could be presented with. In truth, my main reason for carry is because I work...
