I bought two in a row brand new Charter Undercovers in the early years when they first came along.
Neither gun was at all reliable in DA and there was nothing you could do about it.
Geometry of the lock-work was just not right!!

I keep thinking you are thinking of using a knife back-up for your gun.
Because you either don't have a reliable gun?
Or you don't know how to use it?
As for the gun shooting dry?
You carry spare mags, or speed-loaders, learn how to speed reload, and it won't run dry.
Gun going down?
Today's...
That browning line looks a little gimmicky to me.
And if this is going to be something you intend to live with all the time?
You probably won't find it for $40.00 including a comfortable & durable sheath to carry it.
I'd suggest you start here and look at every brand in every style they sell...
A 14" back-up to your .45....??????
Seriously????
Do you know how long a 14" knife is??
Over-all length is almost 20", so it's going to be almost dragging the ground unless you are riding a horse!!!!

Ever do it again, center it in the new location before you cut the barrel off.
Wrap a doubled strand of fine wire or monofilament line around the bead and stretch it back over the center of the groove in the top of the receiver.
Then mark the new location with a center punch between the wires...
Never used Skinner but they get a lot of recommendations.
If you go tang sight, go Marbles, not Lyman.
Marbles has click windage adjustment.
Lyman has to be shimmed over on the tang, or front sight moved sideways to change windage adjustment when sighting in.

I bought a Florida Highway Patrol commemorative C.R.K.T. Kit Carson M-16-14 like this on eBay for $20 bucks years ago.

It was too huge, too heavy to carry in a pocket, sharp like a razor, but too big for...
Your auction number doesn't work.
Here is a link to the actual auction, and it looks orginial, and it does say Stainless Steel on it.

It has to be a later gun, or at least a later barrel, as I didn't think Winchester ever used stainless barrels until...
No.
Chances are slim to none finding one any better then the one you have.
Unless it has already been repair welded & recut.
Either way, it wouldn't be cheaper.
But an orginial 100% OEM hammer would probably be several hundred dollars.

Your reloads are probably too hot or you wouldn't be blowing primers.
Please post your complete load details.
Case used
Primer used
Powder used
Charge used
Bullet used.
OAL seating length.
Thanks

I can see no reason you can't shoot steel in it.
You cut the existing Full choke off when you shortened it 8".
That should have also given you much thicker muzzle walls, with plenty of room for the tube threads.
Just use Cyl, Imp Cyl, or at most Mod choke tubes with steel shot and I dont think...
Those remembering the addictive smell of those old shotgun shells?
You weren't smelling the powder smoke.
You were smelling the wax burning out of those paper shells you were shooting.
That smell went away never to return when plastic hulls were invented.

It has nothing at all to do with lot variations.
It's just that Lyman didn't retest every load in every caliber all over again for every book that comes out.
For instance:
.45 ACP 185 JHP
Lyman #47 --- Published 1992
HP-38 = 5.8 MAX
W-231 = 6.1 MAX
Lyman #49 --- Published 2008
HP-38 = 5.8...
Something like a 98 Mauser or 03 Springfield are hard to run dry as long as you have stripper clips to stuff in the open top.
The British .303 Enfield was often confused with a machine gun battery when a bunch of Tommys got to cranking out rounds.
Hard to argue though that the modern rifle...
O.k.
I'm the wise ass know it all.
I don't correct people normally.
My circle of friends are pretty advanced gun collectors, hunters, shooters, and reloaders.
Most personal friends have been in the gun game one way or another, as long as I have.
They come to me and ask questions if they don't...
What brand of dies are you using??
What brand and number shell holder.
Personally, I haven't stuck a .223 case in over 40 years.
And you shouldn't be either.
