For the most part I never left the tried and true .It's a comfort to use a cartridge that has served well for 100 years or more .If they're still around they must be good. 6.5x55, 45-70, 30-06, 12 gauge, 9mm, 45acp.
While I can shoot 9mm, .40, 45, without the gun moving in my hand with elbow locked I can't with the 44 mag.To make it much easier I shoot the 44 mag with elbows bent a little . When I shoot the elbows bend more ,acting like a shock absorber without the gun moving in my hand . This is much more...
Typical difference between bore and groove dia is .008".
Yes the barrel does stretch as the bullet goes through it and this is significant since this is what sets up vibrations in the barrel. The vibrations are very important because they involve accuracy. When shooting from a rest for example...
Carbines go back hundreds of years and were basically shortened rifles with a 6" shorter barrel usually. We had many rifle/carbine issue guns in our military .The 1873 Springfield' "Trap Door" had both an there were carbine loads for it. 45-70-405 for the rifle and 45-55-405 for the carbine...
I was very happy to see ,on one of the African hunting shows, time lapse photos that showed villagers taking apart an elephant . The explaination was that no meat is wasted, it all goes to the local people. That should be shown more often.
On the other hand I hate to see the shows that never...
Galling is , by definition , cold welding !! Metal from one piece is cold welded to the second piece and torn away by the moving parts. The stainless steel gun problem has been taken care of by better choice of alloys. There are lubes specifically designed for this and other high pressure...
ORO, this subject was discussed many times over after it happened .I no longer have references. I spoke to some of the better instructors, read many an article ,researched it as much as I could. There even was a TV program ,directed by the FBI which had glaring ommisions, never mentioning or...
I hate to see Wiki quoted ,they are not the best source.
AFAIK the FBI never admitted their mistakes .Mistakes , tactics and weapons, and bad luck made for a disaster.
Perhaps the best thing that came out of it was to establish exactly what kind of bullet performance is necessary and that led...
Scare ? Do you think you can scare someone who's high on drugs, alchohol, and a psychopath ?
If you draw your gun better be able to justify it and notify police immediately ! You don't want the BG to be the first to call police and say 'that crazy guy pulled a gun and threatened me'.
It's hard to beat the original Leatherman I use mine often. I also have the larger one for my truck tools but that was made "safer" by adding locks. That has caused injuries to more than a few !
I might as well put my 2 cents in here !
Top of the line hand planer blades and chisels are made from A-2 ,hardly a simple carbon steel. As a kid I used chisels that were available but wished for a better steel like A-2.
Differentiate between damascus [ folded steel] and wootz. Wootz is being...
What about those "smaller" eastern bears ? Record PA bear was 900 lbs ! There have been some recent ~ 700 lbs taken with a bow in the Catskills.
For bullets I'd use a heavier ,better constructed bullet. I'd use my 45-70 with 300 gr Win Partitions.Other than that my 30-06 , 180 gr.
www.thewilderness.com makes a fine minimal holster , the Zip Slide. Made of reinforced nylon I've had one for many years for my HK P7 M10 and use it for IPSC and carry.
These types of holsters have to be made very well to be effective.
RDF is correct.
Chrome barrels are good for eliminating corrosion, making cleaning easier ,and increasing the life of the barrel. It shouldn't effect accuracy.
I've seen more than one gun that had been submerged for a long time .After cleaning they worked fine. That includes a pistol badly pitted on the outside but fine on the inside.
