777 v. BP issues
Rattus, the entire premise of the manufacturing of Pyrodex and 777 (and others now...) was to approximate BP AND offer a cleaner burning, non-corrosive (less corrosive is more accurate in my opinion) propellant for BP firearms. At the same time, BP and the various BP...
I know longer use brushes on my rifles. Dewey jags, Parker Hale style with chemicals. Clean breech to muzzle and the otis cable systems are great for those guns you can't get a rod down through the breech.
I bought a SPS Varmint 26" in 308 a few months ago. I haven't done anything to it yet with the exception of bedding the scope rail and putting nice glass on it. Its a 1 moa gun. The stock is pretty flimsy but the gun shoots solid.
Burris Medium extreme tactical will mount that scope nice and low with clearance for Butler Creek caps. Leupold medium rings work good to. You can go lower but the price of the rings may detour you from that. If you have problems with cheek weld, the Eagle stock pack works well and is easy to...
I have that exact rifle(xmark trigger and Houge tupperware). Bought it about a month ago. I've only shot it out to 400 yards, but I have no doubt 1k yards is possible with some good load work ups. I've done 2" groups at 400 yards in the wind. I also have a ADL in 243. Its hard to tell which one...
I run lead through my factory glock barrels all the time. No leading problems at all. I also use the same lube combination as Kelbro, just make sure it has dried for a few days to avoid any sticky mess.
One odd thing I did notice on mine the other day, and its because its new, is, if you put the wind cover on the scale would read 2.8 grs higher even with a empty pan that was reading 0. As I swung the cover to one side or the other the charge would come back a little at a time till the cover was...
I've considered the 243 in a AR platform. I think the 243wssm in a AR platform is a better choice. Can be built on a standard AR-15, 200 fps faster then a standard 243.
Remington has two small pistol primers. 1 1/2 and the 5 1/2(I think that was the number). The 1 1/2 is for like 380 9mm and the 5 1/2 is for the 40 and some 45 sized rounds.
I do the same, just a little different combination of stuff. I use Johnson paste floor wax, a couple of squirts of Alox and splash of mineral spirits. After it dries for a few days its barely sticky and works great.
Tumble lube first, then load. I do it to all my lead rounds. I'll buy a few k of bullets and lube them, let them dry for a day then put them back into the box till ready to load.
