I need some help with a research project, please.

If you have any old catalogs or other printed sources for specifications on factory loaded handgun ammo, such as bullet weights, velocity, chamber pressures, etc. I would greatly appreciate your sharing this info with me. I don't want the physical material, just the info if you could coppy it...

I feel that I want to share this since I see it come up often.

I frequently see posts about friends or relatives who have old felony convictions are therefore barred from having guns. Many times the posts mention that these offenses were minor, like pot possession or fight in a bar while in the service, and the person has led a sterling life ever since...

May have found the perfect pistol and it's not what I expected.

After nearly 40 years of shooting I have owned or tried just about every kind of handgun ever made. Autos, revolvers, specialty guns, you name it. I have favorites, pistols that just feel good in my hand, and I have some that aren't great but I can live with, and there are some I hated (not to...

Up until now I respected Ayoob.

Masaad Ayoob’s recent article about some guy convicted of manslaughter after his wife died of a GSW to the head contained some insults directed at us. He made disparaging remarks about Internet discussion forums and the people who frequent them joining others (such as Clint Smith) at Handgunner...

    Pawnshop find.

A pawnshop advertised this as a Model 15 with some holster wear. Well, it is worn a bit but it's actually a Combat Masterpiece (Pre-15) made in 1950-51. They were asking $135 and I was reaching for my wallet. :D

    Has anyone come any closer?

Like a lot of shooters I thought it would be fun to have a “birth-year” gun, one made in the year I was born. Last year I accidentally wound with two such pieces, buying both not knowing they were made in 1955. The 1950 Target pictured below was almost a “birthday gun.” It was shipped one week...

    My last project rifle... maybe.

I have rebuilt and restocked numerous rifles over the years, mostly military surplus pieces. Some turned out very nice, other were… well, a learning experience. As I am getting old and really don’t plan on acquiring too many more guns, the chances are I won’t be building any more custom rifles...

    I'm happy with my #1.

I think the Ruger #1A1 is the most beautiful rifle made. But they often are not as accurate as one would prefer. Rifles like lever guns and breach-loaders (or is it breech?) with two-piece stocks usually don't shoot as well as the bolt guns and the Rugers sometimes have a tendency to vertically...

    Colt vs. S&W Round III

While I was at the range I did another round of Colt vs. S&W. This time a couple of rim fires were tested. A Colt Diamondback and a Model 18-3 were pitted against one another in a short and informal test. Shooting at 10 yards, the Smith turned in an average of 1.37” which is pretty fair...

    Colt vs. S&W Round II

A couple weeks ago I posted the results of an informal test of a Colt Python versus a S&W M27. As you may recall the Colt came out on top by a moderate margin. Well, today was Round II featuring a couple of service grade .38 revolvers. A Colt Metropolitan MK III was pitted against a Smith &...

The Python vs. the Model 27: My results.

Which is more accurate, the S&W Model 27 or the Colt Python? I have seen the question raised several times. Both revolvers are deluxe, top of the line guns for their respective makers and either will serve if one needs a premier .357 Magnum revolver. There are differences between the two...

They should warn you about what happens next.

I see quite a few threads asking about how to obtain a C&R license and what benefits it provides, etc. But there should be a stern warning regarding the abuse of the C&R issued to anyone contemplating one. You might go hog wild. Pictured are the acquisitions I made over the summer with my C&R...

After nearly 40 years Cooper finally lost me.

I have been reading Jeff Cooper's opinions since 1968 and I thought he was right much of the time. Even when I disagreed I still respected his accomplishments. But sometimes he says things that are pretty out there and he sometimes mistakes his opinions for cold hard facts. Well, in his...

General impressions of the Henry lever .22?

I've never had a lever action .22 and the Marlin 39 is real pretty but zowie! They don't come cheap. The Winchester is better but the Henry is much cheaper and looks to be a copy of the Winchester. Anyone have one and care to share opinions? Thanks.

Continuation of a theme... another N frame cop gun.

This pre-27 was shipped in March of 1956 to a shop that supplied police state-wide. I purchased this gun from a gunshop that had bought out all the local sheriff department's revolvers when they went with 9MM semi-autos. He had row upon row of 4" Model 19 Smiths and way in the back was this lone...

Can you imagine being issued this as a duty weapon?

A 5" nickel plated model 27 with the smooth "combat" trigger and honey-colored presentation stocks. Department marked, this revolver was issued to a police officer in the mid 1970s. The factory confirms it was shipped directly to the law enforcement agency. Cop guns used to be classy.

Anyone seen or have one of these?

Anyone have any experience with Fitco scopes? Saw an ad and they appear to be sold out of Canada by the Futong International Trade Co. These are some inexpensive scopes. I assume they are imported from China or Indonesia or something like that. Anyone have one or looked at one? Total junk or...

Saw this and wanted THRers to know about it.

I hope the moderators will leave this up. It's OT but a very good cause. I will link to the thread on another forum for full details. Thanks. http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=167766

Sort of makes all the "SHTF" discussions moot.

I see many threads about what guns to use or take in an emergency, or disaster, etc. I usually didn't pay much attention to them but after what we've seen following Katrina a thought has come to mind. Unless there is a total lack of government authority, no influsence from the government at...

Anyone have info on the Shapliegh Hardware Co. of St. Louis?

I just "lettered" a S&W Triple Lock revolver I recently bought and it was shipped in 1917 to Shapliegh Hardware Co. in St. Louis, MO. There were 325 guns in this shipment. That's a pretty big order! I have also heard that this outfit had guns made by H&R for them that bore their own trademarked...
