Question for the AR pros...gas key resistance at gas tube

Hey gang, Just built my first AR. Pretty fun to put it together. I took my time and I think I have everything right. Assembled a friends at the same time and his is fine. The only problem is that the BGC won't easily seat all the way onto the gas tube. At least I think that's the...

Made some "custom" seating stem modifications

Picked up some plated .45acp bullets a while back and while the ammo is completely functional, the Dillon seating stem left an indented ring on the bullet. I sometimes get a faint ring when loading rifle ammo but with the thinner plating, it was enough to indent the plating a bit. I thought...

I'm sold on stainless media tumbling and I'm done depriming on the bench

I'm still somewhat low on the reloading experience ladder. Been at it for about four years now and reload for about 10 cartridges. Still figuring out the best way to do certain things. Used a vibratory tumbler with walnut media since I started. I found it to do a decent job polishing up...

First time Dillon 550b buyer...what all should I buy?

Hey gang, I've been reloading on a Rockchucker single stage for a few years now and I've reloaded 5 handgun and 5 rifle cartridges on my Rockchucker and have decided it's time to bite the bullet and get a progressive. I've decided on the Dillon 550b. I'll initially get it set up in 9mm...

Switching to .224 53gr Hornady Vmax from 55gr Vmax?

Hey gang, Anyone here loading the .224 53gr Vmax bullets? I've been using the 55gr Vmax bullets in my 1-9 twist bolt action .223 and my 1-7 Colt AR with good success. The only thing that's a little annoying is loading flat bottomed bullets. I just realized that Hornady makes a 53...

    .223 velocities...does this sound reasonable?

Hey gang, Bolt action Savage Classic 14 with a 22" barrel. I'm using 55gr Hornady Vmax and H4895 in RP brass. A few years ago I settled on a load of 25.0gr H4895 that grouped very nicely and was about the upper limit of published data. A year or two ago I chronographed a five shot sample...

    Sources for .300WSM brass?

Hey gang, I just picked up a Browning X-bolt in .300WSM and I have everything to reload for it except for brass. The only brass I'm finding is the "gourmet" Nosler, Norma brass for a premium price. I did find 50 Nosler cases at Cabela's for about $2.50 a case and didn't want to spend that...

Interesting brass pickup...9mm case after firing in a .40 pistol

Found this the other day...the expanded part of the case matches the diameter of a .40 S&W case. Also note the off center primer strike. No obvious splits...I'm surprised it didn't split.

    Cause of this brass deformation?

Hey guys, Any ideas as to what may have caused this? This is brass that has been reloaded only once or twice. Mild plinking load. This is the first and only time I have noticed this but it could have been present all along I just never noticed it (easy to miss something this subtle when...

    Question about a Norwegian Krag

Hey gang, I picked up a sporterized Krag in 6.5x55. Based on my readings I think this is a 1912 short rifle/carbine. I have an M96 and love the caliber and had a chance to pick this up for what I thought was a good price so I brought it home. I always thought the side loading magazine...

Problem getting "castle nut" off AR

Hey gang, I'm wanting to install a single point sling style endplate on a Colt 6920. I borrowed a nice sturdy AR wrench and a mag block from a friend. I have completely unstaked all metal from the endplate out of the castle nut. Penetrating oil has been applied and allowed to soak in...

    Midway USA promo code?

I usually can dig one of these out of the emails I get but I can't come up with any. I'm making a purchase over $100 and usually can save $10-15 with a code. Anyone have a code? Thanks!

    Beretta 84BB

I always thought these were beautiful pistols. Picked this up a while back. Pretty good condition, some slight pitting on the left side of the side. One grip panel was pretty beat up so I replaced them. It'll pretty much be a range toy.

    Picked up a new BHP

New to me anyway...Israeli surplus. '68 T-series with "updated" hammer, ambi safety and grips. It's a little rough but I'll take the parkerized finish over the painted variety you sometimes see in these Israeli BHPs. The bore looks new and the internals look good. A bit of surface...

A couple more Swedish Mauser questions

Hey gang, You guys have already given me some good advice...now I have a couple more questions. I picked up this 1899 M96 a couple months back. It was a bit of a spontaneous purchase...what sold me was the bore was like new and the metal was in nice condition. Not numbers matching and a...

Picked up a couple Mausers today...a couple questions for the experts

Hey gang, I keep telling myself not to get suckered into any more cheap guns because I want to get a Garand and BHP but I was weak today. :D Yugo 24-47 and a Turk (I guess what's called a "1938 standard" by some importers). This was a private sale and I got the two rifles and about 50...

Help for a Swedish mauser rookie

I have my eye on a 1899 Carl Gustafs that seems to be in decent condition. The metal is awesome and the wood looks good other than the fingergrooves look overly sanded. Top handguard does not match the color of the stock. Not numbers matching but all the metal is nice. Looking for a...

Foam for hard case...where to buy?

I have a couple hard cases I need foam for. I want to be able to cut out sections of the foam to hold various items in the case. One is for a small case that will hold an electronic varmit call (speaker + remote). Another is for some surgical optics with light, battery, charger, etc...

    Small Finnish M39 project

Hey gang, I had posted some photos of this rifle and had some questions and I recieved some great info from some of the members. Had to do a bit of work on the stock. When I got it the buttplate was all messed up (I'm not sure if it's original but it's been on there for a while because at...

My first M39...some photos and a couple questions

Hey guys, Picked up a well-worn M39 (Finnish Mosin Nagant) tonight. My only other MN is a garden variety hex 91-30. It's far from perfect...missing cleaning rod, a couple cracks in the stock, not much metal finish left, and a mismatched bolt (and maybe other problems I'm not yet aware...
