    new to reloading

The Lee Precision Classic Turret Press is an excellent value which is why it is so popular. Read owner reviews on Midway USA and Cabelas and you will see that it is worth every penny.

    Loading the .45 LC

I only shoot lead but I think you would be happy with 8.5 to 9 grains of Unique.

Best powder for beginner reloading .38sp?

4.6 grains of Unique with either 148 grain wadcutter or 158 grain SWC.

10mm or .45 ACP for HD?

The terminal effect will be similar. so it's a "pick-em" - one thing is that the 10mm would do better in the woods. My choice .45 acp for reasons stated by rcmodel.

non +P .45 Colt self defense ammunition?

One could only hope that the Speer Ballistics Laboratory would know what they are doing as it relates to ballistic gelatin testing and that Speer would know how to properly load their .45 Colt 250 grain Gold Dot ammunition.

non +P .45 Colt self defense ammunition?

The 250 grain Gold Dot will fully expand at velocities less than 800 fps for a fact - http://www.shooterslegacy.net/articles/45colt.html

Ballistic gelatin test results : .45LC Corbon +P 225gr DPX

The point was deeper penetration and much greater expansion at 400 fps less than the Corbon - the 250 grain Gold Dot seems to be a much better choice.

    California certified??

I don't think the Blackhawk was ever submitted for testing as single actions are exempt. The Ruger web site may say "Califronia Certified" only because all single action revolvers are "certified" - i.e. exempt from the stupid law in the first place.

    Reloading Newbie

You can spend more if you choose just make sure it is $$$ well spent. The owner reviews I mentioned should reassure you. In spite of a comment above, many think the Lee Precision Classic Cast single stage is the best single stage bar none. Owner reviews support this contention. If you have extra...

non +P .45 Colt self defense ammunition?

A 250 grain "cowboy load"- round flat point - would shoot through a bad guy and leave a big hole. Cowboy ammunition would work real good. The 250 Gold Dot looks like a winner and the picture in the link above says it all.

    California certified??

Single action revolvers are exempt but all other hand guns are submitted by the manufacturer for "testing" which costs $$$ - if there were not so many people here I doubt you would be able to buy a double action revolver or semi-auto pistol.

    Reloading Newbie

For myself and many others the Lee Classic Turret press is ideal. If you start with a progressive most recommend Hornady Lock-N-Load or Dillion. What I suggest is to read reviews on Midway USA and Cabelas from actual owners to see if a particular piece of equipment is worthwhile. Get Lyman's...

    NAA 22 Magnum

I had the shorter barrel version and like your model better. In the end it is better than nothing as it meets rule one of a gunfight but that is about it. I switched to a 13 ounce J Frame.

non +P .45 Colt self defense ammunition?

I have a new Vaquero and it will take +P to 20 k psi but there are a few really good standard pressure choices Speer 250 Grain Gold Dot (Check this out http://www.shooterslegacy.net/articles/45colt.html) and Winchester 225 grain silvertip with very similar performance and Federal 225 grain SWC...

Ballistic gelatin test results : .45LC Corbon +P 225gr DPX

Both the Winchester 225 Silvertip and Speer 250 Gold Dot are completely safe in any modern revolver as they are both standard pressure and perform better than the DPX which goes to show that there is nothing like big slow bullets in the Colt .45 for self-defense. I believe the 300 to 400 extra...

NAA .22LR/.22WMR combo revolver for snake control (with shotshells)

Again, even though I don't recommend it, I have killed about 5 good sized rattlesankes with a CCI shotshell in a .22 mag NAA with the shortest barrel. It is a fact beyond dispute that it will work but it is a really loud combo. You can shoot from a safe distance but it is best used in a rifle...

Ballistic gelatin test results : .45LC Corbon +P 225gr DPX

    Winchester 225 grain silvertip 13.5 inches and .70 expansion - nice http://www.firearmstalk.com/forums/f30/terminal-ballistics-5862/

    Reloading manuals

For me Lyman's manual would be best choice and "Modern Reloading" by Richard Lee especially if you use Lee Precision equipment. Richard Lee is a great man and his "history" of reloading is excellent reading. Also, for serious reloading data get a subscription to Load Data - it is well worth the...

NAA .22LR/.22WMR combo revolver for snake control (with shotshells)

You made the wise decision - I shoot a lot of rattle snakes and you will do well.

Ruger Redhawk: .45 Colt vs .44 mag?

The .45 Colt is more versatile and shoot bigger bullets. The caliber itself is growing with .454 and .460 added while .44 mag caliber is "dead" in that regard. The .45 Colt does everything the .44 mag does at lower pressure and, again, bigger bullets, something to consider if you intend to use...
