    Obsolete/little used cartridges

I have two rifles chambered for .405 Winchester, an original Model 1895 and a Ruger No. 1-H Tropical. Hornady makes SP bullets for it and they sold .405 brass until a couple of years ago. Loaded ammo is still available. Fun rifles to shoot, but it's a bummer that IMR discontinued 4320 powder...

Where are reloading components available (Not a Discussion Thread)

This happened a LOT sooner than I could possibly ever expect. Our weather turned real nasty a few days ago and the roads were not pleasant, so I yesterday took the bus in to work. When I rode the bus home, I had somehow lost my wallet. Checked the activities on my accounts a couple of times...

Where are reloading components available (Not a Discussion Thread)

I did the right thing by calling them. But every time something like this has happened, the business just told me to keep the goods whether it was an extra or a higher grade of something. So, PV isn't exactly encouraging folks to be honest by this. Bummer.

Where are reloading components available (Not a Discussion Thread)

I figured I would do so and bought two cases of Federal Small Pistol Magnum primers from Powder Valley last week. They arrived a few days ago, but they inadvertently shipped me SPM MATCH primers. So, I called them yesterday and informed them. They said I could either ship the primers back (I...

    LNL froze up

Sounds unusual- never happened to me and I've let my LNL AP press sit for several months at a time. I do keep it well-greased, though, for what it's worth...

    Case trimmers

I have a Hornady hand-crank trimmer that I still use for low-volume trimming of rifle cases such as for my .405 Winchester. About six months ago I bought an M1A NM and prepped several hundred cases by hand, which I found to be very time-consuming and rather painful. A friend of mine at the local...

    is stuff getting thin?

I'm not hurting too much for reloading components right now, so I haven't paid an awful lot of attention. However- compared to two or three years ago or so- it is 1000% better. You can actually FIND components now whereas they were virtually non-existent then.

    so.. i quit reloading.

I've gone months without reloading, then start up again when supplies run low or the weather's particularly nasty outside. I find the process to be therapeutic for the most part, drudgery on occasion. However, I have NEVER totally given up- I can shoot a lot more for the same $$$, which is...

    FINALLY shot my M1A to-day.

Precisely what I did- I remember that being an absolute with single-loading the M1A. Letting the cartridge ride on the top is apparently a dangerous thing to do... probably increases the risk of a slam-fire because by not having to strip a round from the magazine, there is much less resistance...

    FINALLY shot my M1A to-day.

Thank you for the links and best wishes. I should probably re-read the article in the first link; I downloaded it a few weeks ago. I also have Hornady's 7th Edition which did help me determine a reasonably good starting load- Sure is a lot of fun to shoot.

    FINALLY shot my M1A to-day.

After several weeks of procrastination, checking and double-checking load info and other items, I finally made it out to the range this morning and shot my virgin M1A NM with stainless steel barrel this morning. I started off loading and firing a single round at a time for the first three or...

WA AG seeks legislation to ban assault weapons

This news brought my blood to a rolling boil. The AG's job is to enforce existing laws and NOT to propose new ones or even worse in this case, blatantly attempting to amend the state constitution via legislation. From the Washington State Constitution: Article I, SECTION 24 RIGHT TO...

Ruger No. 1 in 7 mag: What do I need to know?

I have a No. 1-H chambered in .405 Winchester and it is a real beauty. As for recoil, it is, shall I say, "authoritative". Ten rounds from the bench is usually the maximum I can take in one day- I only have the factory stock pad. Never shot a 7mm Magnum... as mentioned previously, recoil is...

MBC 140 grain "Zingers" .357 magnum are a hoot

I haven't tried the Hi-Tek coated versions of the 140 Zingers but I do shoot a lot of the uncoated variety- and they are great. I normally run about 7.5-7.7 grains of Herco under them; zippy, accurate and very economical. And MBC's speed of delivery is second to none IMO.

    Primer storage idea

If I were storing the primers in an underground container of some sort, this would be the method I'd use. And for "normal" storage, it certainly does no harm though it may be overkill to some degree. Just my opinion.

    RIP RC Model sad news

What a serious bummer. I always enjoyed RC's presence here on this board. A major part of THR has left us, and this board will not be the same without him IMO. Rest In Peace, RCModel.

Now that I have a progressive, do I need my single stage?

For what it's worth, I started reloading with an LnL AP, then bought a single-stage a month or two later because operations like decapping, resizing large rifle cases, etc. are often better performed on a single-stage IMO.

    Were you ever anti-gun?

Yep. From about 1990 to the fall of 2009, I wanted nothing to do with firearms. A long series of tyrannical events from our government caused me to do a COMPLETE 180° turn around September of '09. Haven't looked back.

    Bullseye and 44 magnum

Yes, especially with the heavier 300-grain bullets although it also works quite well with the 240's. Just not as efficient of powder charge/velocity ratio with 240-grainers. On the plus side, it's not a "flashy" powder and because of that I have a bunch of 240-grain Noslers capping 23.0 grains...

    (Yet another?) M1A reloading question.

Well, at least for now I'm gonna stick with IMR 4895 and nothing else until I get the loads with same dialed in; then perhaps I'll look at other powders including '4320 for useable, functional (if not ideal) loads. I ran some test loads through QuickLOAD and noticed that the pressure curves for...
