Since Promo only comes in 8 lb containers, many not familiar with Promo may hesitate. Well for me, Promo is the ideal powder to stock up on for pistol/carbine loads for the following reasons.
I was introduced to Promo during the "Great Shortage" and since have gone through several containers of Promo already (Yeah, that's how much I like Promo). At first, Promo looked like addiition of large round flakes to Red Dot without the red colored flakes and metered like Red Dot with .2+ gr variance. But produced very acceptable accuracy for 9mm/45ACP loads and marginally usable for 40S&W as it was too snappy unless you used lower charges -

But since the introduction of Promo, Alliant has "reblended" Promo so it is now mostly large round flakes (Without Red Dot's crinkly flakes) and meters better with .1+ variance and in my C-H 502 micrometer measure, metered as well as W231/HP-38 getting .12 gr variance for 10 drops

So in recent years, Promo has replaced W231/HP-38 as my general purpose, plinking load powder that produces very acceptable level accuracy for 9mm/45ACP -

And if you shoot pistol caliber carbines with blowback action that benefits from faster burning powder, Promo has produced relatively less sooty spent brass than W231/HP-38/Sport Pistol and slower burning powders with greater accuracy for me (probably from faster powder burn sealing the case mouth/neck faster with the chamber and burning more completely before bolt starts moving back).
