    Texas Predator Hunting

If foxes are around, they can be called in any time, look for big bouldery areas. I noticed a couple of years ago that I had my best luck calling coyotes in the morning during a new moon and in the evening during a full moon. Thats my .02

    Western hunting Caliber.

I live in the west, I reload and if I had to pick one rifle cartridge for the rest of my life, the choice would be easy. 7mm-08. Here is why: bullet selection, B.C. and S.D. is supurb, i'm partial to speer bullets. The 7mm-08 has less drop and more energy than a '06 shooting grain for grain...

Getting ready for New Mexico deer hunt.

Thanks guys for the good advise. I've gone hunting in New Mexico many times with my uncle, however, this is only the second time that I have my own tag. I've learned the value of optics over the years and I'm bringing the best glass that I can afford; Leupold 1000i range finder, Steiner Merlin...

Getting ready for New Mexico deer hunt.

I'm getting ready for a rifle deer hunt in unit 21 in New Mexico. I'm going scouting next weekend and am going to test out the trajectories that I got from the Vortex LRBC program out to about 600 yards. I worked up a subMOA load for 7mm08 using H4350 and a 145 gr speer hotcor, chronographed...

pre 64 Model 70 rebarrel question?

I ended up trading for a ruger m77 tang safety 7mmRM at a gun show. I know I gave up some value on the trade, but honestly, not that much. I ended up with the caliber I want on a gun that I like with no out of pocket expense. I can't wait to shoot it, hopefully it groups decent with factory ammo...

pre 64 Model 70 rebarrel question?

Thanks for the info guys, a couple follow up questions. I looked up the serial on my rifle and it puts it made in 1953, if that makes a difference. What is the thread count for that year and would there be any issues mounting a stainless barrel to that action?

pre 64 Model 70 rebarrel question?

A while ago I acquired a pre64 winchester model 70, re-bored and chambered to .257 wby from a .220 swift. For multiple reasons I want want to re-barrel it to a 7mm RM cambering. The gun is nice but its no collector piece, and I am not worried about damaging the "collector value". I want to shoot...

why are there no remington 700 rifles around?

I've seen the reason for the recall first hand. If you knocked the trigger while it was on safety, the gun would fire as soon as you threw it off safety. I put a timney trigger on my 7mm-08 sps and I haven't looked back.

the 7mm/08 and varmints= does it work?

7mm08 is an Excellent all around gun! As for loading "true varment rounds", however, its a good immitation of the real thing. The best you'll be able to do is load speer 110 gr TNT (b.c. 338) to about 3200 fps. I've shot this load before, the accuracy was ok and terminal ballistics were...

    .223 COAL for 69gr smk

Max COL for .223 is however long your magazine is. In a single shot you are limmited by touching the lands, which ellevates pressures slightly (watch for cratering, head expansion etc.). I've seated out to 2.384 before having feeding problems.

    Need advise on loading .30-'06

I need to load up some elk/oryx loads for the '06. I settled on 180 grain nosler accubonds. For powder, I have on hand; win 760, H414 and H4831. Has anyone used one of these powder and bullet combinations? And do you recomend a magnum priner for ball powders?

    Core-Lokt vs Accutip for deer/hog

I had a bad expericnce shooting a hog with a .243 win. I used an 80 grain Fed power shock to double lung a 75 lb sow inside 30 yards. Long story short; I trailed the pig over 300 yards off the property and never found it. 100 grain bullets might hold up better but if I had to do it again I would...

Serious rifle help needed (Savage110 .308)

Savage Arms makes good quality accurate rifles, they deserve quality optics. Anything in less that the $150 class for scopes is not worth the money. That's right, NOT worth the money, they only cause aggrivation like what you're experiencing now. Something like a Redfield, Nikon Prostaff...

New rifle, have a few questions

Weaver 2 piece scope mounts and High Quad Lock Rings are easy to find at Walmart, top it off with a Redfield 3-9x40 and you'll be set. I've been real happy with that set up and all together it should be under $200.

.243 with 55gr pills.. can't get cartridge OAL

I never tried 55's in .243 for these reasons (COL and throat erosion) but I have tried 60 gr sierras with good results and 70 gr noslers with even better results.

    Most accurate .223 powder poll

BLC-2 did better for me than Varget for 69 smk's. Varget did very well for me with 55 gr sierras. I just got some H4895 to try out with 50 gr v-max's and 60 gr varminters.

Stevens Model 200 .223 is range ready now.

I tried the 69 gr smk's but the 55's shot much better and were much more explosive. No reliable expansion on smk's.

What causes difficult bolt closing on reloads?

Get out your calipers and make sure all your cases are to SAAMI length specs. If you don't have a trimmer you can use a chamfer/deburring tool until you get one.
