These are some very solid recommendations. I'll keep every one of them in mind as I begin the long-awaited search. Needless to say, I'm happy to receive a kind reception at the forum; I've spoken with a few self-described "gun nuts" over the years who were mainly interested in inflating their...
A few weeks ago, I rented and tested a Bersa Thunder 380 at the range to get a feel for its grip and recoil. Now, I have no experience with differentiating between harsh and light recoil, but I can say that the Bersa was very easy for me to control. It was a joy to hold and shoot. I also...
Atblis,
If we lowered my spending limit to $500, would I still have some good options? I'm not against spending good money for a good gun. However, if there are less expensive guns that are proven performers, I'd like to look into them. Thanks for your suggestions, guys!
I opened up a new thread to discuss alternatives, and I invite everyone to check it out and share your knowledge:

Sorry for setting this thread off-track! Maybe one day I'll be able to return here and share my own experiences with the SR9c.
THR,
I began a tangential discussion in this Ruger SR9 thread about potential candidates for a first-time handgun purchase. Of course, the SR9c was among those candidates, but it was brought to my attention that I should consider the alternatives.
In short, I'm hoping to find an...
Once again, Walt, that's very sound advice, and I thank you for being patient with me. Numerous people have told me that .380 ACP is a very impractical round for new shooters. So, I began considering the Ruger SR9c because it offered the advantages of the 9x19 Parabellum casing within a...
Thanks for your response. "Better," of course, is a subjective term; I'd never press you or anyone else to tell me what gun is the "best" on the market because I'd be swallowed up by the amount of information that is returned to me. Rather, I wanted to know whether the SR9c is ideal for a new...
I'm quite happy that I stumbled across this thread. I've been away from THR since 2005, and I've returned because I think I'm ready to make my first handgun purchase. I came here looking for advice, hoping to find some information on the SR9c, which I consider to be a leading candidate for my...
Telewinz, I am waiting for your answer... where do you get those poll figures? Refer to my post above.
Like I said, I am not experienced (call it ignorance if you like that word better) in the fields of Vietnam, but all this time I had thought the strategy was to stamp out the Communist...
Could you be more specific? I searched online for this "70% of Americans do not agree with Iraqi invasion" poll, but could come up with nothing!
What poll do I have about Iraqi feelings? Well, we polled the Iraqis already.
"While Iraqis are unhappy about the current situation in their...
I don't see anything wrong with that. They want us out by March, and that's fine. They can want us to leave all they want. If they start taking hostile action to provoke it, then we'll slaughter them like cows.
Any questions?
:neener:
Sorry, I'm no specialist on Vietnam, so you might try direction your comparisons toward someone who is more knowledgeable on that. You've managed to imply the comparison of Iraq to Vietnam in almost every post this thread that I can see, but (as far as I know) I don't see the similarities...
I think we should stay until they are ready to defend themselves. If we leave before they are ready to stand by themselves, then 2 1/2 years of progress would have gone down the drain.
Of course it's a breeding ground for terrorists. The government there... it's all in rough transition. The country doesn't yet have the ability to enforce laws against terrorism, like we do. It will take some time before Iraq is up on it's feet. I suspect that peacekeepers will need to stay...
Random terrorist car searches, random house checks, and warrantless police searches would be indication enough for me. Increasing the privacy of the government, for the purpose of preventing terrorists of being tipped off on an investigation, is hardly convincing enough.
I was simply mentioning the similarities of the tactics; that certain members here, on the one hand, tell the Liberals that guns reduce crime because there is nothing that proves to the contrary, but then turn around and state that the Patriot Act could theoretically be used to usurp power and...
I was going to say... I was hearing remarks on this forum from pro-gun right advocates that are similar to the arguments that Liberals use to ATTACK gun rights. The similarities are... Liberals say something like this: "Theoretically, gun control could be used to lower crime... but it hasn't...
