How does a load/rifle go from 1 MOA to 1/2 MOA by INCREASING distance?!

I won't try to explain it, because I can't But, with a number of rifles I've found it easier to shoot 1/2 MOA groups at 500 yds than it is at 100 yds. This is comparing apples to apples at both distances; the same rifle and ammo. Not the same conditions, though. Since I've seen this on many...

Thoughts About the Satterlee Method of Load Development

One data point does not a data set make! Satterlee is trying to glean information from one data point at each powder charge. Statisticians will argue, but probably 30 data points are needed to assess random variation. That would be at each powder charge. Other variables would have to be...

    Starline Brass question

Starline is a great company, reputable and friendly. Backorder is an odd term; it doesn't really reflect the usual understand of "not in stock but on order from our supplier." Supplier? That would be Starline themselves. As others have said, it will show up fairly quickly. Even if a product...

Fire forming 7mm TCU from .223/5.56 brass

Back in the day, I used a 7mm TCU. You'll need to anneal the cases after expanding. I quickly learned that it's a big stretch from 5.56mm to 7mm and the brass work hardened. This resulted in cracks after one firing. Annealing has to be done properly and consistently. It's easy to overdo it.

    The Unloaded Gun

I get it! If I pick up a drill motor or a squirt bottle of something like Windex, my index finger goes straight out. Muscle memory. Non-shooters have looked at me funny. Shooters don't seem to notice or if they do, they just grin.

    rmr

I'll pile on! I'm another satisfied, actually delighted customer. The product is great, doing business is straightforward. There are no surprises. Jake calls it like it is. For example, one can backorder items. Jake tells you straight away that he charges your card in advance and...

Can somebody please PM the RMR code to me? Thanks.

What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

Here's one that I can't take credit for: At a recent match, a buddy said he uses an electric toothbrush to clean his guns. He says it gets into all the "nooks and crannies." We all snickered and poked fun at him. Sharing a toothbrush with a gun is even worse than sharing one with your wife...

What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

It might be that your setup would benefit from a more rigid bench or mounting scheme. If you've already covered that angle, it might be the Hornady is just "loose" and lets the measure move too much. I do agree, though, that a consistent smooth activation of the measure is important.

    Remember your first reloads?

Good thread! I started in about 1985. Bought an RCBS Ammo Crafter kit at SportsWest. I'd been buying factory ammo for my .357 and quickly realized I'd go broke in no time. A friend showed me the ropes with his setup and then I just jumped into the deep end. I'm up to 39 calibers now. Some...

    I'm discovering a "new" caliber: 38S&W

Interesting to hear about your 38 S&W revolvers. I have a Webley my Dad bought from a bus driver in Seattle back in the 50's. It sat on the top shelf in our coat closet for years. Always wanted to shoot it. Then he gave it to my brother about the time I left home. Some years later my...

32 year old reloads, need advice.

Shooters tend to be a frugal bunch. Somebody else's ancient handloads? OP didn't know the handloader and got the loads from a third party. Being frugal can be costly. IMNHO, it just ain't worth it. How much would you save by shooting these loads? The price of a cheap dinner? At Denny's...

Guns you paid way too much for, but don't regret it

Well, back in the 80's I bought an S&W 586.... for $289.95. Overpay? Not at that time. It led me down a path of infatuation with S&W's. So yeah, I overpaid for that 586 many times over. Not a bit of regret!

32 wadcutter for bullseye, brass and bullets

32 cal HBWCs are indeed scarce. If anybody is looking for them check with Dillon. Yep, Dillon of all places. I bought some Speer HBWCs from them a few weeks ago. From my searching it seems Speer is the only game in town after Hornady discontinued their 32 cal HBWC.

    30mm vs 1" tube

For me, a 30 mm tube is a disadvantage. I tend to swap scopes around and it would be aggravating to have different tube sizes. That would mean a mount change each time I "got a wild hair."

    300blk accuracy issues?

As others have said, fix the obvious problems first. My experience with 300 BLK has been one of love and hate. First, I dumped H110/296 and went to 4227. Second I went after bullet runout. It's extremely easy to seat bullets in that case that aren't on axis. Runout wouldn't give you...
