I get the disdain for cheap guns - I won't buy them either.
Hard to believe the hate for some of the others. Perhaps ya'll are just a bunch of limp-wristed ninnies that shouldn't be firing real weapons. ;-)
Mine was the gift I asked for HS graduation, a very nice Browning BPS. it fit me well, I shot it beautifully - but it jammed way too often. My diagnosis was that the chamber was slightly too big and brass sometimes expanded upon firing and stuck, and I mean STUCK in the chamber. The final...
Some of my favorite hunting memories were as a high school student running for the hills after school with just my bow and knife - hunted in my socks. Learned a ton and loved it.
Yup. I had a fancy finish BPS and tossed it in the river when it jammed when I had a great chance to triple on canada geese. Nothing but Wingmasters and Benellis in my safe now.
I have a Savage with bull barrel and thumb hole stock and it is the bomb diggity. Even with the crappy combo scope (Cabela's package), it will hit a dime at 100 yards easily. The Accu-Trigger took some getting used to, but I love it now.
My oldest boy is nearly 17 and handles a 1911 just fine. He wants a Glock though - he has much to learn. My daughters shoot too, though just .22s at this point.
Heck - I prefer the 1911 - it's what I carry. I thought a Glock would be easier to teach to possible neophyte sons-in-law. Plus - it's tough to find a good 1911 for 5 bills.
I will be buying either Glock 17/19 or 22/23 for my sons and future sons in law for general personal defense. I want to have them in hand in case they are not available when they come of age. I will also be buying a 23 for myself - my first Glock.
What do you recommend for my boys and...
I have the same gun you picture and have killed mule deer and cow elk out to 90 yards with open sights. Love this gun with hot Buffalo Bore hunting loads. If you do your part, it'll turn lights out on the quick.
I received an "Original Golden 39A" as a very thrilled 8 year old some 30+ years ago. It is still one of my favorite guns to shoot, even if the fit is a little silly.
Marlin 39A when I was 8 - 20 ga Wingmaster Mag when I was 11 - both from dad.
Wife got me a Super Redhawk our first Christmas together.
Obviously - any gun Christmas morning is beyond cool. I've enjoyed giving my boys guns Christmas morning too.
