Accuracy of BP revolvers (group sizes)

You can get good groups in steel frame guns as well with 20 to 25 grs of powder. It's when people start to put as much powder in them as they can you run into trouble. Then say it's the gun. Don't take my word for it, try it for yourself. NOT in a brass frame though..

    Uberti Walker Kit

Can't wait to see the finished project 25cschaefer. I have a question would it be very hard to dovetail and put a taller colt sight on my Walker or Dragoon pistols so they don't shoot high any more or would it be better to cut and file the hammer down to get the POI where I want it. Not trying...

    Antiquing a pair of brassies

Nice job J-Bar. I'll remember this if I come across a second hand pistol that I want to try it on. No way can I bring myself to do it to one the pistols I have now. They'll just haft to get there on their own.:)

    Reproduction Revolver Problems

I have guns made by both and you could get a bad gun from either company when mail order. I got lucky with the half dozen Peittas I ordered from Cabelas all of them are good pistols right out of the boxs. All the Ubertis I've bought are good to go right out of the box but I was lucky there to. I...

    flat base conicals..wad needed?

Never had a problem with it befour might need to foul the bore first. When new to bp an old time bp shooter told my how to season the barrel I did just what he told me to do and the barrels stay slick as glass. Only thing I haft to do is run a spit patch down the barrel after every three shots...

Cap sizes; Uberti 1851,1862 and Pietta 1858, 1862

I went through all this nipple stuff a while back. I found that just sticking with the stock nipples and ordering the Rem #10 caps by the thousand is the easyest way to go till you haft to change the nipples. Heck some of the new guns you still haft to squeeze the #10s to keep them on.:banghead:

    flat base conicals..wad needed?

SASS Traditions rifle barrels w/1:48 twist are pretty good guns from the ones I've tried out. I used Pyrodex RS w/90 grs and was getting the rd balls to hit the same hole @ 50 yrds. Just start with that and .590 rd ball w/0.15 patch you should be able to get pretty good groups out of that...

Planning on selling my blackpowder collection...

Now you got me thinking that the bp pistols prices will start to go up. I was thinking of selling off some of the bp pistols I have had for a few years and still NIB. After reading this thread I think I may add a few more I been after to the collection. I did what Old Dragoon was talking about...

    new to black powder questions.

I was in the gun shop one day and was getting a couple boxes of .375s for one of my .36 Colts and setting right next to them were a few boxs of Speer .350 rd ball. I took one of them up to the man that runs the place and ask him what they were for and he told me they were for a .36 cal rifle...

Pietta 1851 brazzer for Xmas. Questions

I have two of those brass Colts in .44 like yours Todd. There good little pistols. One is the 7.5" bbl and the other a 5" model. I keep my loads at 20 grs for both. I use Pyrodex P for all my bp pistols. People around here don't sell the real black powder anymore. Sometimes if a few friends go...

MMA1991 Looks like you got a good deal on that rifle. Sence people have gone over to the inlines the old smoke poles are showing up at a lot of gun shops for little money you can get some really good deals nowdays. That's how I got my last two bp rifles. One of them I found a new bbl for off...

Holster recommendations 1858 rem and other info

Jeeptim the 1858 is one of the best to start out with. I can't add much to what has already been said but the powder pellets might not be the best way to go cause you'll be stuck with them and 30 gr pellets may not shoot the best groups you would want. I found that most guns shoot better with...
