Identity and Date of Manufacture of S&W Revolvers

Thanks Radagast! Interesting on how late the 66-2 was manufactured. My guess would have been late 70's early 80's. Thanks again!!

Identity and Date of Manufacture of S&W Revolvers

Recently picked up a 66-2 (S/N AUY93xx) with 6" barrel. It has the target hammer and trigger (if that means anything?) Anyone know the DOB? Thanks in advance! Here is a pic...

    Astra Revolvers

Thanks bud!! I was incredibly nervous when the hacksaw hit the metal, but there was something wrong with the accuracy. Whatever it was seems to have been fixed with the 2 inches removed. Here's my thread from a couple years ago if you are interested. I've since had the original sight...

    Astra Revolvers

I have the 44 Mag. It is not a 629, but it works for what I need it for. Last time I shot it the cylinder jumped halfway to the next chamber. This only happened on MAX powered loads. The medium and 44 special loads were fine. I think it is just needs a new cylinder notch spring. Mine...

Help me pick out a revolver

With your intended purpose I would go with the SP (in 2.25" or 3"). IMO the Security Six is the best GP (general purpose) revolver and the SP (special purpose) is the best for packing all day. After a Wolff spring kit, deburring, and some polishing my SP has the best trigger out of all my...

    Ruger security six

Thanks bigtubby, congrats on your new find and show us some pics! I was converted from the GP to the Security Six about 4 years ago. I still have one GP left after trading another for a Security Six. And I might trade off my last GP for another Security Six as well. I really have no use...

    Ruger security six

Congrats on a good deal for a great gun! I have a couple myself including a stainless snubby. Numrichs has almost everything for the Security Six at a reasonable price. Give us some pics when she's all done.

New to the model 10 world

Now I'm really in trouble. I went to another guns store just down the street from that one, and they had a standard model 10 in much better condition (cosmetically that is, about the same mechanically) with the heavy barrel for $389. This one is real pretty with a deep dark blue and no scuffs...

New to the model 10 world

Thanks Driftwood for all the information! The condition is about the same as the one in the closed auction in my last post. I say cosmetic condition "average" because I don't know what I'm talking about.:( I guess bluing about 65% with several scuffs and small dings, but the action is like...

New to the model 10 world

Thanks guys. Yes, 38 special and pencil barrel. Here is a closed auction of a similar gun with the same markings on the grip. http://www.gunsamerica.com/975000299/S-W-Model-10-7-Blue-38-Spl-RHKP-3564.htm

New to the model 10 world

I found an interesting 4" Model 10-7 at my LGS. The cosmetic condition is average, but the lockup is rock solid with no wiggle. The S/N says AAN46XX and stamped on the backstrap "RHKP 2547" I believe it stands for "Royal Hong Kong Police". It has the half grips (shorter style) and they...

    Hot 45 Colt load questions

I took my 5" Raging bull out today and shot 2 different 45 Colt loads and 2 different 454 loads. According to the box the Hornady 240s were pushing 1900 at muzzle. I didn't have a chrono to prove that, but it felt like it was pretty close. The 300 grain 454 rounds recoiled about the same...

    Bear Defense Round....

Not sure I'm on board with this data. I know of at least 30 confrontations, first hand, mostly warning shots that scared the bear away. And I can't recall not ONE of my friends scaring a bear off with pepper spray. Like I said before, the gun is a far more effective tool at scaring the animal...
