44 May Be Special. But it Ain't for Defense!

And Jim Cirillo seemed to have success loading wadcutters in his 38Specials.... We have more choices today than 30 years ago. The 44Special still works. These days, part of the issue may be a general lack of training and experience with revolvers. Pistols are pistols: single shot pistol...

Snub nose revolvers - .357 vs 38 special

My normal carry load in snub 357s (like my 640-1 or 2 1/2" M66) is the Golden Sabre 125 gr 357Magnum. This is one of the reduced velocity loads and has noticeably less muzzle blast than the standard 125gr or 158 gr loads. FWIW, I prefer it (in steel frames) to 38+P's out of any alloy frame 2"...

What Caliber Do You Carry Most?

From these choices, 45ACP. Including other choices, 357Sig. And that's only because they don't make good belt holsters for shotguns. ;)

    CA Bulldog Club

My 3" Bulldog has a definite sharp hard recoil, with standard factory rounds. More than 158gr 38+Ps out of an Airweight S&W (642). I plan on loading midrange wadcutters for the Bulldog. They should still work on paper or rabbits. FWIW

    Colt DS .38 vs .32

Also, for what it is worth, while the Colt, and my S&W, both hold six 32 rounds, the Charter Arms holds five 32's. I do not know how many 32's will load into the small Rugers.

    Colt DS .38 vs .32

The suggestion I like most is to buy both. :) Both should be fun and be equally mechanically accurate . Anyone who trains enough to be aaccurate with a snub revolver is a good shot and may be proud of their skill. The 38 may be more practical, because the ammunition will work in your...

    CA Bulldog Club

I want a Bulldog with that Tiger Stripe finish. How is it holding up?

    Best budget revolves under $350

I'd prefer a good used S&W; but a new, heavier, CA should work. Just remember that the lighter a revolver is, the more recoil it has. The model 10 S&W's are the standard.

Here is a 3" Classic Bulldog. Pachy grips and I've settled on the 165 gr Hornaday load. ]

Any shot you want: Three Centerfire Rifles for all big game, globally

Africa could be fun except for the armies running amok. Bad for PR. Anywhere else: For smaller big game: 357Magnum Lever; For larger 308 bolt; For bigger 45-70 Lever.

    .44 Special GP

I'm just jealous of the dirty cylinder and small grips. ;)

    .44 Special GP

One of the advantages of the Special is the much gentler recoil & muzzle blast (vs magnums). For in town, Skeeter's load should handle things fine.

Okay, how about this? GP100 44special, Smith 69 2.75", or Smith Performance Ctr model 629?

From this list, the Ruger GP100. The rules I carry under say: no chambering in 44Magnum. Rules are what they are, besides I wouldn't load a 44Magnum for in town. And, I bought a new Charter Arms Bulldog vs a used Taurus or Rossi. The used Smith five shot 44Specials cost...

    .44 Special GP

It will be interesting to see what is made. Ruger already makes several single & double action 44Magnums. A Ruger 5 shot 44Special should fill a void, and handle most needs just fine with Skeeter loads. Patience is not always my strong suit... ;)

    .44 Special GP

Heh. I just bought a 3" Bulldog and am waiting for a Bell Charter Oak Summer Heat.... A Ruger GP would be really sweet!

CCW, need carry options for a S&W 64

Our summers reach 90 to 115 degrees, without the humidity some places have. Cargo shorts and some kind of T shirt or polo shirt were all I wore for years. That easily concealed a 2" to 4" K frame with a good IWB and belt. For best results, the belt loops on the holster should match the belt...

I like the Pancake holsters by Lobo Gunleather. Mernickle has some nice ones as well.

    .357 Magnum for Self Defense?

SuperCub, Welcome to the forum. Don't let us grumpy old men scare you away. For S&W, I'd say look at the 4" 627Pro. The 4" 27-7 is pre-lock and they didn't make that many. The 27-8 is a PC gun and has the lock; I have the blued 3 1/2" er and it is a favorite for carry. They also made...

Any room for improvement in revolvers?

Hey! I didn't explain my pic... Revolvers are different by design, and technology. Lighter wheelguns have more recoil. Stock design can go a long way in fixing that recoil but we don't produce stocks fitted to individual people for each handgun. Better sights. Better grips. No failures...

Why Does Ruger Still Offer a .38 Special SP101?

because. :) Ruger must be making "enough" money on them. And some folks carry under rules that require .38 Special only or no 357Magnum. And if someone wants a really strong 38 Special....
