Vintage Ammo !!! What to do ???

I have a few old ones displayed too, but this lot is way too big to display all. Think I'll keep a few and sell the rest when I get an idea what I'm doing. Thanx for all the help so far. Here are some pics if that helps.

Vintage Ammo !!! What to do ???

Well here I am again asking advice from anyone who knows more about this than me. I have recently and accidentally fallen upon a bunch of old ammo. I got a pretty fair deal and was going to sell it on my tables at the gun shows. But after picking it up I see that almost all of it is in Vintage...

    Help ! Winchester 1886 Prototype ?

It's buried deep in a safe. I'll try to get some pics up in a few days. The normal place for a serial number is blank. It has a letter and 3 numbers STAMPED in another place. The previous owner told me that his friend at Winchester told him before he died that the letter was for a particular...

    Help ! Winchester 1886 Prototype ?

I have an 1886 Winchester prototype in 45-70. Got it from 3rd owner. It was in a museum that closed, then a Mexican ranch, then to a collector, then to me. He knew the history and wrote it all out for me. It has a few oddities unusual to a production 86 rifle but I just assumed that was because...

    Wrong Bore for SURE !!!

Cerrosafe made it to the mailbox today. Should have some info by this weekend if the Doctor takes the cast off so I can walk. Anybody have any suggestions on what to melt this stuff into ? Pour it out of ? ETC ? One friend said use an old metal soup can, is this cool enough to handle with...

    Wrong Bore for SURE !!!

P.S. Guess I gotta eventually get this barrel right for Hollywood. It's clearly been cut before, but it's longer than carbine length. Any one know off hand what the original Trapdoor Carbine barrel length was ?

    Wrong Bore for SURE !!!

Still waiting on the Cerrosafe. Promise not to throw it away. Here are some trapdoor pics for any ones discernment. Maybe you'll have an idea. If you look close you'll see there are 2 close lines circling the barrel between the rear sight and the breech. I don't recall ever seeing this on a...

    Wrong Bore for SURE !!!

A Texas friend (And good customer) of mine offered to educate me on cerrosafing today. he also suggested that this may be a 44-77 or a 43 Spanish. Got a little delayed in my progress by doctors today, but I'll be back on it soon. Looking forward to reporting soon as I can. So, it looks like I...

    Wrong Bore for SURE !!!

That's a whole lot of good ideas ! I don't know why I haven't already thought of hanging something on the saddle ring myself. Seems like such a simple solution. The rear sight is easily replaceable, so that might be a good way to go too. I like the idea of no permanent marking on the rifle. I'd...

    Wrong Bore for SURE !!!

I've been brainstorming on it already. Not sure yet but I need to think of something. I wonder if I can get a Cody letter on this one, and what the caliber on the letter would say ? Any ideas on a good way to mark it without hurting the value are welcome ! Under the sight sounds good but no...

    Wrong Bore for SURE !!!

Pretty sure it's not a re-bore. Looks like it hasn't had 2 boxes of ammo thru it. Made in the 80's. I figure the first owner couldn't hit anything with it and that's why I ended up with it cheap. Anybody's guess why it's mis marked. They made the trapper in 32 cal. too. Probably side by side...
