Looks nice. Hope it works well for you, Merry Christmas! Jim

A purdy' Belgian Browning Hi-Power followed me home

I just bought an FN (late eighties, Belgium, assembled in Portugal) that had been modified with a SFS safety. I really like it. Having an open hammer in a holster really bothered me even on my "good" 1958 Belgian Hi power. {I loved it but wouldn't carry it.} This gun has some bubba uglies...

Using a go gage to find chamber length

1.630-.002=1.628.... The chamber and gauge are what they are. Sorry to be pedantic...

    biathlon

There were some (I think) federal 12 ga target cheapies that we bought on the way out to SD this year for pheasant opener that were pink as well. (Breast cancer awareness)

    Scope Ring Recommendation

Truth be told, (having spent twice as much + for a Nightforce mount) I think the Vortex is superior. As far as optics go, mmm...No... Swarovski, Nightforce, Zeiss, Leupold vx6 (not in that particular order) I have a few high end Vortex scopes, but they are far from my favorites. They are...

    Scope Ring Recommendation

Truth be told, I tried to link to the medium height rings on the Cabelas page, and it reverted to the highs... sorta figured anyone who clicked on the link would pick the appropriate height for their chosen scope as it was an option on the page. As for Spuhr mounts, they may be the most rigid...

    Pump action recommendations

+1 for the BPS... First gun I ever bought and the first I fell in love with.

    Scope Ring Recommendation

    1) I suspect that if you want to take a scope off of a 2 piece picatinny type mount and mount it directly on a different rifle, expecting the crossbars to line right up, you’re in for some angst. 2) Those of us who actually put turn-in type rings on rifles with any regularity tend to own the...

Machine guns on an old warbird?

Nope, it just can’t endanger anyone if you toss it out. We flour bomb from various warbirds all the time with or without an audience. At an organized airshow, the airboss and whoever is in charge from the FSDO set the rules, but lots of stuff still gets dropped.

    Scope Ring Recommendation

Having previously expressed my preferences on non-Picatinny platforms, on flattops, as a”high end” mount, nothing beats Vortex for the money,

    Mauser 98 .243 - opinions, please

I feel a lot better about a Mauser action than I do about a Remington 783 (or equivalent)

    Mauser 98 .243 - opinions, please

Slamfire, not trying to be difficult, and I do appreciate your perspective, however, a properly headspaced 98 with an appropriately lapped bolt has 2+1 things which are hell-bent on keeping it in battery. I would posit that a Mark V Super Ultra Mongo Magnum action with 9 contact points would...

    What If We’re Wrong?

They didn’t give us rights, they are inherent. Even a cursory read of the federalist papers makes clear what the founders felt about the government having more power than the people.

    Mauser 98 .243 - opinions, please

So Ackley’s snake oil propensities aside, that still isn’t a picture of a catastrophic failure that split the chamber and ring, that’s a picture of something that happened when a case ruptured due to what was probably grossly inadequate attention to headspacing. This was no doubt going on over...

    Mauser 98 .243 - opinions, please

I do it out of love, not economics. My last “bolt handle job” cost me a couple cubic feet of argon and a half inch of 1/16 thoriated tungsten (because one of my friends walked in and I stuck the damned thing in the puddle) It’s really neat to take something that is 100 yrs old and has no...

    Mauser 98 .243 - opinions, please

    1) I have never, ever seen an actual picture of a 98 Mauser action with the ring split open by any load of any chambering. 2) proof loads for even sklave ww2 98’s were 4000 bar+, and with a rebarrrled action, the actual chamber is dependent for all intents and purposes on the barrel, not the...

    Mauser 98 .243 - opinions, please

So I have to admit that I was thinking this might be an early Weatherby. If you’re not interested, send a few pictures, and we can talk about a finders fee.,

    biathlon

I’ve had my ass handed to me (in skeet competition) on a number of occasions by 16-17 y/o girls who were exponentially better shots than I’ll ever be. While I obviously didn’t feel good about losing, It was really neat to see a kid do so well, and to know that she would have decades to only get...

    Need deer rifle advice

I have a 7mm Remington Browning BLR that is just downright unpleasant to shoot off of anything but a Lead Sled. It has a pretty squishy recoil pad, but it still hurts.
