Mossberg 100 ATR or Savage 111?

Marlin X7, which is the exact same gun as the XL7, but they just shortened the name on the current models. In my opinion, the .270 Winchester or 30-06 would be the most versatile choices, and I heard in the past (probably not the current models) they had problems reported on the .25-06 model.

I just traded for Marlin XL7

Hornady SST's are hard to beat for consistency and price!

    45-70 power

For deer (and elk) I use Hornady 300 grain HP's over 55 grains of IMR 4198 for about 2400fps. Check out Hodgdon's data for Marlin Leverguns at the following link: http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp From their site (condensed to show maximums: Cartridge: 45-70 Government (Lever...

Titanium nitride as a gun finish?

Hornady does some of their reloading dies with TiN, I believe.

Marlin 1895- TALK ME OUT OF THIS!!!

My 1895 Guide gun in 45-70 shoots 1 1/4 inch three shot groups with handloads at 100yards with select handloads...especially Hornady 300 grainers over Hodgdon's data for IMR 4198, minus a couple grains off the top end! Love it!

    What is the best revolver?

Although the best lookin' Super Blackhawk was silently screamin' my name for a ride home in the not-to-distant past, I would probably opt for a BFR in 45-70 Gov't!

    Cheap single presses

Got a Lyman hand held (or table mountable) press for next to nothing years ago and keep it in my hunting camper with some favorite dies and equip for use during deer camp int he down times! Love it!

    DA trigger proficiency

For fast, non-staging shots the "1,2" method still works good. I was refering to target shooting and once one really gets the feel of the gun even with staging the shots it can be done reasonable fast. You "feel" the staging as you unflinchingly focus on the front sight and target. But to...

IMR 800x Data for .357 Magnum

Same GP100man from the Ruger forum? If so, I'm the same "deerhearse!" Small world here in cyberspace!!! :)

    DA trigger proficiency

I do the same as others have posted: In the last few moments of travel in DA mode with my GP100, there is a light click as the cylinder locks up. I use that final moment to adjust on target using the "1, 2" concept. "1" I hear the click and do final sighting, and when I am on target, "2" I...

IMR 800x Data for .357 Magnum

New to this site but have been lurking around for some time and finally took the plunge! Lovin' it! :) Lots of posts on this site already about IMR 800x, with reminders to stick with published load data. I found this site helpful when my free bullets came in from Hornady (their "Get...

Most comfortable revolver chambered in .357?

Shooting full-house .357's through my 6 inch GP100 is actually comfortable (with ear plugs) recoil wise! The mass and tank-like quality of the gun with the comfortable Hogue grip make it an absolute joy to shoot!
