    Exploding flashlight batteries

Hmm, this might be why BatteryStation is switching suppliers. I have gone through about 25-30 of their "old style" (like the ones pictured above) without any problems but when I ordered a new batch they were all Rayovac brand. Might be that BatteryStation is leery of the old manufacturer.

Surefire 623G forend (Mossberg 500/590) - old style?

Good pickup. I got a newer 617FA in exchange for my 617F (also marked Laser Products) in a warranty repair from Surefire. How is that light working with the bayonet lug and sling stud mounted directly in front of the light?

So I picked up this Egyptian Maadi AK.....

+1 on what Ash said. I have a Maadi ARM (the thumbhole version) imported by ACC somethingorother, bought in the late 1990s for like $200. It's not as nice as the Steyr imports but it does the job. Currently in the process of converting it to US parts status ... KVAR fixed stock sets are not...

    Shoulder holster vertical carry

Are you totally sold on vertical shoulder holster carry? I thought I would like vertical over horizontal until I test-fitted a Galco Miami Classic at a gunshow. The only benefit to vertical (to me) seems to be that you can carry a longer gun than horizontal. I'm not that "deep" (front to...

    Pro Ear Electronic Ear Muffs

I have two pairs. The first is the Sporting Clays model, and the second is the Magnum model. The latter is a Dimension One (?), the former is an older model before they came out with all that Dimension hoo-hah. I would not recommend them. They don't seem to work as advertised. I am unable...

    Universal Pistol Magazine Loader?

Yes I have one. I also have the LULA for my AR15. I highly recommend it. I was at a pistol class earlier this year where we went through 1,200 rounds in two days. Boy were my thumbs sore. So I went out and bought the UpLULA. All you need is a flat surface and you're good to go. Even if...

    Need an LED flashlight

Add another vote for the Streamlight ProPolymer 4AA Luxeon. I have one in black and I just came back from a week-long camping trip. It really blazes its way through the night and is very weather resistant. In fact it was so bright one of my fellow students commented on that fact ... One...

    Too many mags?

6 per gun, minimum. Definitely not "too many" in that photo. I just had one of my pre-ban (1991 vintage) Center Industries AR15 30rd mags go bad. Mags don't last forever, so make sure you have more than just a few.

    Electronic Hearing Protection

I have two pairs of Pro Ears -- the sporting clays model and the Magnum model for handgun. I can't recommend them. Maybe it's just me but they don't work as advertised. I cannot hear normal speech over gunfire, which is supposedly the big advantage of these sets. At $200+ per set, it's not...

Reddot sight for an AK with an Ultimak rail: should I get a Burris XTR or Kobra?

Second on the Aimpoint. With the "stock" 30mm ring it co-witnesses perfectly. I have one on my Maadi ARM. PS yes Aimpoints are expensive but you can find a better deal on a previous generation model. Mine is a Comp M-XD (second generation) and was purchased new for around $200 in the...

How do you sharpen your knife?

Hey Zeke. I'm living in Center City Philadelphia but my parents are in Mendenhall. I still say from Kennett Square b/c I refuse to call myself cityfolk. :)

How do you sharpen your knife?

I must be the only person on the planet that can't get a good edge using the Spyderco Sharpmaker. :) Off to try the Lansky system next ....

Do you like your Ontario RAT-5?

Got my RAT5. The grind looks a smidge uneven but not enough to complain about. The class is the last week in August so we'll see how it goes.

    Lowest Aimpoint QD ring?

I had an Aimpoint Rail Grabber for my Comp M-XD. I ditched it ... for the same reason. Using the stock 30mm ring on an Ultimak it would perfectly co-witness with the iron sights on my Maadi ARM. That and the scope kept "rotating" in the Rail Grabber under recoil, no matter how much I...

Do you like your Ontario RAT-5?

I hear ya ... I considered the RatManDu but they were out of stock. The other Swamp Rat knives in stock were too long (6"+ blades).

Do you like your Ontario RAT-5?

Yes it was. The school sells a knife that has a 4.25" blade and is advertised as being good for chopping. I agree on the RAT-7, that would have been a nice blade to buy. Personally if I'm going out for an extended period of time in the woods I'll bring a knife and a hand axe. Different...

What Gear Do You Always Carry in Your Pockets?

I'll play. - Zippo lighter (I do not smoke) - Buck mini-multitool - Spyderco Endura (stainless or Zytel handle) - Credit card holder (no wallet - I used to be like George Costanza) - Money clip - Cell phone - Keys (with Photon II LED light) - Surefire E2 Executive (green or black)...

Do you like your Ontario RAT-5?

Thanks, those are good suggestions. Your suggestions are also supported by most of the reviews on bladeforums. I didn't go for the Fallkniven F1 because the blade is tad short. The class will involve a lot of chopping and I felt the shorter blade of the F1 would be a bit of a liability...

Do you like your Ontario RAT-5?

About to place an order for an Ontario RAT-5 from KnifeCenter. Intended use is as a survival knife, for an upcoming survival/tracking class. Class specifies that you need a fixed blade knife with the blade being no longer than 5". I have Spydercos, Benchmades, Randalls, Cold Steels...

    Decisions, Decisions...Or....How to spend $150.00

I have not heard anything good about BC barrels for the 10/22, especially their carbon fiber barrels. Too much flex, not enough stiffness for good target accuracy. The Green Mountain barrels are typically regarded as "best bang for the buck" barrels but a new one will run you $105-110 from...
