safe experts- how hard to bypass electonic locks?

Was flabbergasted by seeing a video of someone by passing an electonic lock on a cheap safe, basically they pulled out the wires through a small hole and used a battery to power it open- is this a concern with gun safes with the electronic locks? Specifically the amsec? Seems the big...

Advice on low recoil 12 ga defense gun

Maybe some shotgun gurus can help me here- I am looking for a 12 gauge ,short barrel gun, LOW RECOIL ! My current "bear gun is an 870 with 1 3/8 oz Brenneke's and that is VERY hard on the body. I put that in so you would have an idea of what I consider to be heavy recoil. Is there a...

CZ 75B .40 Mag question- gurus please!

Picked up my first CZ used, a 1999 75B in .40 . Gun seems as if it has had very few rounds through it. Cleaned it up and lubed and am gonna go test it tonight. The question- it came with two mecgar 10 round mags, they have a thick plastic butt plate. There is no way in the world 10 rounds...

WOW! Scope on service grade Garand!

Well, I did it- put a CMP mount and Leopold 2.5 scout scope on the Garand. Windy today , but a few hasty eight shot groups showed the smallest at about 1" with two flyers, to the largest at 2 1/4" all inclusive. This is down from a best of about 2 1/2", and a usual of 3"- 3 1/2" or so with...

Using silicone tape to armor a scope

Anyone ever use that silicone "magic tape" to armor a scope? This is the stuff sold at various shows to repair a multitude of things. It leaves no sticky residue and bonds to itself. I was thinking three or four wraps around a scope tube would work well to protect it from bumps.

    garand scope mount and rings

OK, I'm gonna do it- scope my M1 with a scout type forward scope- got the scope, a Leopold IER 2.5X ,and a CMP base is on the way. I would like a QD ring setup, so I could use the iron sights if necessary. I have heard of LaRue QD rings, any others I should consider?

What is Kentucky like for shooters?

Every once in a while I get the bug to move from Puget Sound, generally i look around/visit a place during the summer. Lately, Kentucky has interested me. The Hardwood forests are a lot like the place I grew up. And I am self employed and do not need local customers. I am imagining a 50...

"Fess up" -what kind of gun are you getting for your loved ones for Christmas?!

Here's mine- for a three war combat Infantry vet (WW2, Korea, Vietnam) a Carcano he always wanted. For my long time friend, his first M1. For my daughter, a Winchester 9422. What'cha'gettin' for those special ones?!

    Vepr question-muzzle break falls off?!

So the muzzle break on my vepr comes loose- it is retained by three set screws- sort of bogus but ok I guess if the break fit tight-which it does not-I would guess it is at least .020 oversize, enough so I can see no way to tighten down the screws and keep it centered. The question is this...

Are there wolves in western Washington? (the state!)

My cat was growling ,looking out the window just now and I saw what was either the worlds biggest 'yote or a wolf. I would guess three feet at the shoulder, wide chested, gray in color. Almost all the "yotes I have seen around here are scrawny things. Could this have been a wolf? I suppose it...

Garand shooters- what factory ammo is safe to use?

I know about the Garand ammo issue- that the standard military M2 uses a fast powder so the pressure at the gas port is low, and that most commercial ammo uses a slow powder that can cause a high gas pot pressure and bend an op-rod. So with that in mind, are their factory commercial loads...

Vietnam vets- please ID this shoulderstock holster

No photo but here is the description- my friend recently died unexpectedly- he was a two tour vet , USMC. (Semper Fi, and Godspeed, Steve.) I saw a wood combo shoulderstock/holster in his belongings. It had a leather partial covering that had a magazine pocket (about the size of a single stack...

When and why did SWAT start wearing Black masks?

I'm curious, it always seemed the bad guys should be the ones wearing masks. Hell, even the SS and Gestapo didn't wear them. So what's up with it?

    vepr question

I was cleaning the 7.62x39 vepr and noticed the muzzle brake was loose, it is retained by three set screws. The brake itself is nowhere near a close fit on the barrel, it has a bit of play so I am concerned about how to tighten the screws to get the brake lined up right. Any suggestions for a fix?

How well does your Garand shoot?

As delivered from the CMP, my service grade shot about 5-6" groups at 100 yds, usually a 3-4" cluster with a couple of flyers. I am counting the flyers in the total group size. After staking the gas tube, shimming the stock for a tight fit, relieving the rear handguard, and sending off the...

Garand spits lube in eye- Help!

Ok, not in the eye, on my glasses-good thing I wear them! I have tried lubriplate, and a light clear teflon grease. Both are spitting little grease drops on my glasses. I have reduced the amount to very little, still does it. What am I doing wrong?

    Swarming attacks?

After watching a video of some of the swarming attacks on lone individuals by multiple attackers closing quickly and repeatedly punching and clubbing, my first thought was a gun would not be my first choice of weapon. A very sharp knife or pepper spray might be better to deal with multiple...

    How is a mortar aimed?

How is an indirect fire weapon like a mortar aimed? If the shooter and target are hidden in dead ground, you would need a spotter, yes? Is this all done with "old" tech, or do we use a lazer rangefinder and direction (compass point) finder coupled with a gps to establish the target...
