    Browning 1885 butt plate

Has anyone ever seen a flat (shotgun style) ribbed plastic buttplate on a Browning 1885 High Wall? I'm presently looking at one at my LGS. According to the serial number, the rifle is an 1885 High Wall built in 1985 -- the first year of production when Browning changed from the older B-78 to...

    .260 Remington project?

I'm pretty much a diehard .308 fan, but recently came across what I think could be the start of a fun and inexpensive project: a used Savage Model 10 Predator Hunter in .260 Remington in the Max 1 camoflage Accustock for $460 (it comes with two-piece bases of unknown make or quality.) The rifle...

SHTF rifle for average family member?

If you were going to recommend one of these choices for a SHTF rifle for a family member who is NOT familiar with or regularly practices with firearms, what would you choose? Please consider ammo availability too. Right now I shoot/stock .308 and 5.56mm

Any suggestions for a small flashlight?

Preferably a small-ish one that has a high-output LED bulb and runs on AA batteries. I already have 2 Surefires that use lithium batteries. Maybe a Streamlight?

Colt 1911 with two different rollmarks?

I have this on hold at the LGS. It's a Colt Combat Target Model that has been customized. Or it's a Colt Combat Government Model that has been customized. Two different Colt models... but both rollmarks on either side of the slide. Leftover Series 80 CG slide used on a 1997 CT...

ISIS terrorist attack at Minnesota mall

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/19/us/police-shoot-attacker-in-minnesota-mall-after-8-are-stabbed.html "Later Sunday, Mr. Kleis identified the off-duty officer as Jason Falconer, a police officer in nearby Avon, Minn. Mr. Kleis said video footage of the shooting, which has not been released...

1911 front sight - tritium, or fiber optic?

for a full-sized carry gun. Experience? Preferences? I don't want black on black, or three white dots. The tritium would have the white ring around it; for fiber optic, red or green.

LL Bean fall hunting catalog surprise

http://www.llbean.com/shop/shopByCatalog/LE/index.html Got my LL Bean Fall 2016 hunting catalog in the mail today. Look at pages 6-7 (download and click on the corner of the page to turn pages) It appears the hunter is carrying/using a Savage Model 99? Another photo appears inside...

    The kindness of the LGS

I was at my favorite LGS last weekend (one of three I frequent) looking over some CZ .22LR rifle models. They had a used Model 452 Trainer (with some cheap scope) that caught my eye, and I was comparing it to a NEW CZ semiauto. One of the kind-hearted regular salesmen that I often deal with...

Just had to shoot up the place, didn't you?

Another stupid, needless black eye for gun owners. I don't know if these folks are legal guns owners or not; doesn't matter at this point. -------------------- Vandals identified in Death Valley rampage at pupfish refuge Three men caught on camera vandalizing protected habitat in Death...

Jaime Gilt, keeping it real -- real stupid

    Best 1911 slide stop?

I always thought it was Wilson Bulletproof or Ed Brown, but some fairly recent online reviews (2-4 years ago) have disparaged those parts -- casting lines, off-center pins, poor fit and finish, won't lock slide back with Wilson magazines, etc. Maybe some of those older issues have since...

    1911 parts preference?

When replacing any 1911 parts -- trigger, slide stop, disconnector, etc. -- does anyone have any favorite brand that they trust or have good experiences with? Or bad experiences with? I'm thinking of aftermarket parts suppliers like Ed Brown, Wilson, Harrison Custom, etc.

Browning Hi Power firing pin reinstall - holy cow!

Thought I'd give the FP channel on my Hi Power Gen. 3 a cleaning last night. It came out easy enough, but putting it back in was a nightmare. WHY BROWNING, WHY?? Anyone else have this rude awakening? It's not like a 1911 reassembly at all. You have to push the sear lever up with one tool...

22LR companion gun for main carry gun?

Just wondering, does anyone here have and use a 22LR handgun that is a companion to your main carry gun? And do you train with it often? If so, how? I'm thinking of something like a 22LR conversion for a 1911, or a Kadet barrel and slide for a CZ75, or a 22LR j-frame to go with the .38...

Browning Hi Power -- how do you carry yours?

I have been carrying mine OWB in a Don Hume JIT minimalist leather belt slide holster -- I like it a lot. I tried switching this evening to an IWB appendix carry -- it's not comfortable sitting down, and I don't like a cocked hammer pointing at my femoral artery or reproductive organs...

What are you thankful for today re: firearms/2A?

I'll start it off: 1) I'm thankful for living in a "shall issue" CCW state 2) my father's and grandfather's service in the US Army, and the attitudes I inherited from them 3) living just seven miles from my gun club, which has 24/7/365 indoor access 4) the firearms and SD free advice I...

Is anyone changing carry/training distance in light of terrorrist threats?

With the possibility/likelihood of radical Islamic terrorrism coming to the United States, and with their tactic of using machines guns and suicide vests in public places, has anyone changed their primary sidearm or training regime for the unlikely but life-altering possibility of being a victim...

Handgun you trust your life with?

Out of all the handguns you may have carried or may be carrying now, what ones do you trust your life with? i.e., the most reliable? For me it would be S&W stainless J, K and L-frame revolvers and a recently manufactured Browning Hi Power.

Purchased an older Springfield Armory TRP

Made in 1998, according to SACS. It needs all new springs (I think) and replacement Trijicon lamps. Came with the factory box, no owner's manual, and two non-factory mags. which I left with the dealer. $700.
