Colt 3rd model 41 rimfire derringers

I was at an out of state gunshop while heading home on Christmas break and came across 4 3rd model colt derringers in 41 rimfire. Condition of the set ranged from a couple with most of the original finish 70-80% and two with less than 20%. All were clean, not messed with, tight and with good...

    Ranges near Lancaster PA

Hello, I am moving to Lancaster, PA in a few weeks and am looking for information on ranges in that area, and hopefully any close IDPA matches. Any information would be appreciated, I do not know the area very well at this point.

    N Frame in 38 Special?

A friend brought over a couple of S&W's yesterday that had belonged to his father, one in particular seemed a bit unusual. At first glance I figured it was a 38-44 as it is on an N frame, but the barrel is clearly marked as a 38 special. The serial number seems to indicate 1952 production. Its a...

    Another Throwing Knife

Well my friend was having so much fun playing with the throwing knife I just built that I figured I would make another one. The first throwing knife I built (shown on a previous post) was about 12 inches long and 3/16 inch thick and weighed about 14 ounces. This time I up-sized and made the...

    Made a Throwing Knife

Never built a throwing knife before, but I have a friend who wanted something kind of different so I gave it a go. The total length is about one foot and it is about 3/16 inch thick. I used mild steel, but color case hardened it using the bone and charcoal process, the handles are leather held...

Need Help with 32-20 S&W Revolver

Hello, I was at the local gun shop the other day and walked out with this. To the best of my knowledge it would be a 1905 hand ejector S&W chambered in 32 WCF. The gun had an ugly pair of Pachmayr grips on it which I promptly removed. The action is tight and smooth and the bore and cylinder...

    Police Searching Homes

One thing I have noticed in the Boston situation, and also the earlier one in California a few months back are the police going door to door conducting searches of peoples homes. In these circumstances are warrants not required? Seems a bit odd.

    Trigger Lock on S&W

Does anyone know if S&W has any plans to remove the trigger locks on any of their classic series revolvers? Some of these would be a whole lot more appealing without the lock.

    Do I really need a 28

So I went to the gun store yesterday, all innocent like, telling my wife that I needed some more powder and low and behold I see a S&W 28-2 4" on the shelf. Now I have a few 27's, but have never had a 28. I couldn't quite see walking out of the store with a firearm and pretending it was a pound...

    Thoughts on Rossi 69

For quite some time I have had a desire to locate a nice S&W 31-1 with a 4" barrel. I'm not exactly sure what my fascination with the 32 S&W cartridge is, or why I felt compelled to purchase the dies, mold, and brass for one at the gunshow a few years ago, but the desire to bring one into my...

I'll be eating Ramen noodles for awhile

Made the mistake of going to the local gunstore this morning for a pound of 2400 and some primers and walked out of the store with a mint S&W 19-3 4" and a Taurus 431 4" (44 special & stainless). I don't need any encouragement for the Smith as they are simply impossible to pass up in this...

Mom to 911: Ok to shoot intruder

Somebody might have already posted this here, but if not it is a good story. http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_t3#/video/crime/2012/01/04/dnt-mom-kills-intruder.kfor

    Re-threading 6-48 to 8-40

I have a TC Contender 30-30 barrel with the holes for the scope mounts stripped out. The current screws are 6-48, would there be any problem with rethreading to 8-40 assuming that the new threads didn't go any deeper?

    S&W model 27 Load Data

I have an early S&W model 27 with a 4" barrl. I am curious about the old 38/44 loads and how much power you can get from one. I any event I would like to play around with some of these loads using 38 special cases if possible. Any ideas where to start?

Information on original Colt revolver casings

I've been doing some research on the original wood cases that were sometimes provided with Colt revolvers in preparation for a writing project I'm working on. I've got most of the Colt reference books and they have provided some great information in the form of photos, but often little in...

    S&W model 27 3.5"

I have a friend who is interested in selling a S&W model 27 with a 3.5" barrel in blued finish. He claims the gun is in really good shape and wants $575 for it, which, if in good condition seems reasonable. The thing that has me a bit puzzled is that he says the serial number is S2488XX and I'm...

    Questions about the Sig P232

I've been looking hard at a Sig P232 at a local gunshop as a replacement for my 32 acp Guardian. I love the idea of a clean single action pocket pistol; however, my concern lies with how safe this gun would actually be for pocket carry. Are the mechanics pretty much the same as a traditional...

    Am I insane?

I have lately developed the desire for a 4" S&W model 57. I have a nice 70's vintage 57 with the mahogany case but it currently wears the 8 7/8" barrel on it. Nice gun, but I just would prefer a shorter barrel. How wrong would it be to find a good smith to rebarrel it with a replacement barrel...

Question about Thompson Contender Hinge Pin

I purchased an older Thompson Contender frame recently that is in excellent shape, but is missing the hinge pin. I had another Contender and measured the hinge pin and turned a replacement; however, I'm not sure what the correct heat treatment would be for it. I have the knowledge and equipment...

    Ithaca Auto Burgler Gun

I was looking at some old articles concerning the Ithaca Auto Burgler gun and am looking for opinions on something. Do you think it would be legal to make a reproduction of one of these if the barrels were rifled instead of smoothbore? I really couldn't see any reason why it wouldn't be, but it...
