I've always practiced with 130gr FMJ in my short barrel revolvers (442-1 and SP101).
I'm looking to order some 158gr .38 Spl (My Ruger prefers 158gr in terms of POA = POI) for practice sessions and the best ammo deals seem to be on LRN ammo.
I realize that 158gr is going to be pretty...
I've been a J-Frame guy until now, but I'm thinking of getting an LCR in .357. I think the extra 3.5 oz over the .38 just helps soften recoil a bit, and I have the option to shoot mid range .357's like Golden Sabres or Gold Dot SB loads.
I do like the XS sight version, but it's only...
I thought the 642-1 was the stainless J-Frame .38 Spl released in '96, then discontinued later with the advent of the IL.
Now I'm seeing new production 642-1's in production since 2008.
So I'm confused. Did the -1 ever go away? If so, and it's back, are the new ones of the same quality...
I'm shopping for some nice wood grips to dress up my SP101. Photos would be great, but just a brand / model of grip you like the look & feel of would be helpful.
I'm aware of Badger grips. Any others worth a look?
They start out as Saigas, I understand that. Who's doing the conversions to turn 'em into SGL31's? Is this done here in the states? Does this have anything to do with Legion?
We all know brass-cased ammo prices are through the roof.
The most affordable 9mm practice ammo out there is Tula / Wolf / Brown Bear Russian steel cased stuff.
Does anybody use this with regularity in their pistols, and what's your experience with it?
My pistols in question are a...
I'm considering the LEM 9mm P2000SK for a primary CCW. Currently my G19 and J-Frame share these duties.
I've been through a few polymer-framed 9mms; Steyr, Sig, Walther before deciding the G19 was the keeper. The HK looks a bit more concealable and I like the idea of the LEM trigger for...
Does anybody just leave a Saiga in its non-converted form? Are they a decent rifle as-is, comparable to a Mini-14 as an all-around rifle?
I'm considering one in 5.45 that I might convert some day but am also considering a Mini-14.
I already have a 5.45 Tantal, so the Ruger would be adding...
I'm considering one of these for CCW duty. Right now my CCW duties are shared by a J-Frame or P32 via pocket carry or a Glock 19 OWB.
Caliber will be 9mm.
I'm leaning toward the V2 LEM trigger.
I understand these are soft shooting pistols, even though 9mms aren't exactly heavy recoiling...
I've already got a Polish Tantal in 5.45 and I'm thinking of picking up a '74 as I prefer the stock.
I see a couple at Atlantic Firearms, although they're not in stock. Anybody have experience with these particular rifles?
Otherwise, who's building a nice '74 right now? The new SGL-31...
Though I usually pocket carry my 340 M&P, sometimes I prefer belt carry to free up a pocket and have better access.
What do you guys recommend for OWB?
Already have a Yaqui slide that doesn't feel secure enough, and a Kramer Belt Scabbard that is too hard to draw from (grips the gun...
Any experience with this steel cased stuff? Is it underpowered or more likely to contain squib loads?
I understand it's made by Barnaul in Russia. Barnaul's rifle ammo is good stuff.
This would be practice ammo for my Glock 19.
I've got a new Tantal and it's not feeding soft point ammo reliably. Should I stick to FMJ?
The ammo is 55 gr Barnaul SP.
Could this also be a magazine issue? One mag fed the ammo fine, and the next one would fire the one in the chamber (that I fed in via the bolt) but not feed the next...
What have you Tantal owners (with original Polish barrels, not the US-made barrels with different twist rates) had the best luck with for plinking ammo?
Right now, I see Wolf 60 gr FMJ, Wolf 70 gr FMJ and Barnaul 55 gr SP, as well as Silver Bear 55 gr JHP available that is made by Barnaul...
I live in a town home and share walls with neighbors.
My 870P is now loaded with 2-3/4" Fiocchi LR 00 Buck - 9 pellets and recoil that I find very manageable.
That said, I'm wondering if #1 or #4 Buck would be a better choice for limiting over penetration considering the walls I share...
I know the 5.56 in lighter bullet weights is a popular HD choice, largely due to the bullet fragmenting. Trumps a handgun round (but not a shotgun with buckshot) for one shot stop potential, without the handgun rounds tendency to over penetrate.
How about 5.45x39 with its tendency not to...
I'm a big fan of J-frames, and my most fequently carried gun is a 340 M&P.
That said, a little voice inside my head has been telling me to pick up a SP101 for years. I had one in 22lr and sold it in fact.
Here's my rationale - I could put the same 5 rounds of .357 on target in less time...
I had a conversation with my FFL last week that got me thinking.
Background - I live in a townhouse and share walls with neighbors.
My current HD piece is an 870P with Fiocchi low recoil 00 Buck. Also have handy a Glock 19 with 124gr Gold Dots, my carry weapon.
I understand either one...
Is the Silver Bear line of ammo non corrosive? How about Barnaul?
I was under the impression all 5.45 ammo was in fact corrosive which entails a different cleaning regimen than used with non-corrosive ammo.
Price per round has me looking at a rifle in 5.45, but not if it is a PITA to...
Looks like Remington intends this 125gr load as a .357 mild-to-medium. I'm wondering if it'll be a good fit for my M&P 340.
Is it hot enough that bullet pull would be a concern? :uhoh:
How does this load compare to the Gold Dot short-barrel .357 in terms of felt recoil, anybody know...
