HK P2000SK - anybody tried one?

I'm considering one of these for CCW duty. Right now my CCW duties are shared by a J-Frame or P32 via pocket carry or a Glock 19 OWB.

Caliber will be 9mm.

I'm leaning toward the V2 LEM trigger.

I understand these are soft shooting pistols, even though 9mms aren't exactly heavy recoiling anyway.

Would like to hear folks impression of the P2000/P2000SK overall.

I have the P2000, the SK's slightly bigger brother (as well as other HK pistols) and it is an amazing pistol. It has the various backstraps to fit the individual. It is more accurate that I am. It holds 13 rounds. I have never had one single malfunction over the past five years that I have owned it. I have the P30 and love it too but I wouldn't get rid of my P2000. I suggest you go over to the hkpro.com forum as well where you will find many P2000sk owners with lots of experience with those particular guns. Between the replies on this great forum and that great forum, you will get all the info. you would ever need. Good luck.

I had a P200SK in .40 S&W.

I've also had a full size USP .40. H&K handguns are amazingly accurate, easy shooting weapons, and completely reliable.

I don't own either one anymore.

My reason (and there will be MANY who disagree completely) for not carrying/keeping them is that (to me) they don't have a very slim profile for concealed carry. I just find the H&K's (Glock's too, by the way) very blocky and bulky for concealment.

I carry a Sig P239 now, or a full size 1911. Both fit my requirements for slimness.

Weapon preference is a pretty subjective thing.

Would like to hear folks impression of the P2000SK overall.

Great carry gun, it has all the attributes you want... small, accurate, very reliable, easy to shoot quickly and simple operation.

It is not a pocket gun.

I chose the DA/SA trigger but the LEM is also a nice trigger well suited to carry.

Recoil is soft enough to shoot hundreds of rounds without discomfort.

FWIW:

I've only had my 9MM P2000sk V3 for a few weeks, but it has already sent my other 9MM cc guns to the gun safe.:)

The P2000sk has a reputation for reliability and amazing accuracy and my pistol is both...

Here's a target shot from seven yards (my self defense range practice distance), two hands, resting.. I'm a senior citizen (66) w/shaky hands and less than perfect eyesight and the inherent accuracy found in the HK P2000sk even makes me look like a pretty good marksman, (which I'm not).

I suggest you go to www.HKPRO.com, search "P2000sk" and you'll find out all you want (maybe more) about this fine little sub-compact.

There are two complaints I've read about the P2000sk, and neither have anything to do with the inherent qualities of shooting performance the P2000sk brings to the table.

1. For some folks the fingertip ext. on the factory mag is not perfect.. Resolution, replace the mag base with one from the P2000sk 357Sig and you have a flat bottom that most folks seem to think solves the problem. I like the factory fingertip mag, but that's just me. I have ordered a flat base plate to try on my 2nd mag just in case I might like it better.

Or, as another gentleman suggested you can "dremel" off the "tip" of the standard mag fingertip extension for a better grip for the third finger.

I'm not sure a person with large hands would be happy with the P2000sk using the standard mag, but the P2000sk will accept the 13rd P2000 mags (using X-grip) and the fit and function is perfect. I have one of those and I use it for a home defense type choice. I cc the P2000sk with the standard 10rd'er. ANYONE would love the grip and feel of the P2000sk using the longer 9MM P2000 mag w/X-grip adapter.

Three extra free rounds too.. ;)

2. On MANY of the P2000sk's (and some other HK pistols I hear) the right side slide release might "rattle"... Solution for this is to cut a tiny, real tiny, slice of velcro and adhere it to the back of the lever and no more noise.

Now your (and my) first instinct was to say "crap" a rattle on a gun that retails for over $1000 and whose manufacturer has a slogan of "no compromise"? Heck, we wouldn't accept that from a darn $150 High Point.:cuss:

But.

Well, it is what it is. I have spoken to the HK CS person in Columbus, Ga. and he said HK headquarters in Germany have been advised of the "problem" and don't seem to be too concerned about it, or about figuring out a permanent fix.. Now that sucks.

I'm a lefty, and I would like to have the option to use the right slide release, altho honestly the great majority of pistols I've owned over the past 50+ years only had one slide release, on the left side, so I'm quite accustomed to using that one anyway.

So I guess the question would be to a potential buyer would the slide release "rattle" be a deal breaker? Well, I knew from research going in that I could expect the rattle, and bought one anyway.

Would I buy it again, knowing about the rattle, and the indifference of the folks in Germany to the minor problem? Yep, yep, and yep...

I've owned a Sig P239, two Glock 26's and a very accurate Walther P99c/AS in the past, and for me, the HK P2000sk V3 is a better subcompact overall than any of them. I also have a couple of HK P7's and surprisingly I find the P2000sk as accurate, for me, as they are, and my P7's are very, very accurate.

Funny how small details can make a difference in whether or not you like something... For example, I have 6 3rd Gen Smiths that are excellent pistols, each 100% reliable and more than self defense accurate, but none approach the inherent "tack driving" accuracy I find in the HK's and the P99c/AS. Additionally, inserting a mag in any of them is less than satisfying in that you just don't get a "good" lock sound to indicate the mag is inserted properly.. But you put a mag in the P2000sk and that sucker "locks in" with a satisfying "click" that assures you the mag is locked in properly.. My P7's do the same thing.

Finally, my P2000sk V3 IS my 9MM cc choice, and I have absolute confidence in both it's reliability and amazing accuracy, and for me the "left slide release issue" has been resolved (thank you Velcro) to MY satisfaction and I love the little pistol. I would recommend it in a heartbeat, and I suggest you do a little research and you'll find the vast majority of folks who own a P2000sk love it.

Just personal opinion, no offense to those who might disagree.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

I like the grip on the P2000SK, and a LEM trigger is just right for this little pistol.

The slide has a high bore axis and might be "fat," but then so am I, so if I were ever to move to a CCW friendly state, I wouldn't feel put out by its "bulk."

Thanks guys. Not looking for a pocket gun, so no problem there.

Is it soft-shooting for a subcompact considering the high bore axis? My P99c was fairly whippy and is the same size. It got a little tiresome after 150 rounds or so.

I have a P2000 the wife has a P2000sk.

I like the pistol it is solid and has a great feel to it but I continue to carry and use my G19; I just prefer the Glock. If my wife didn't have her P2000sk I'd sell my P2000.

I actually did not like the extended mag base, but the flat baseplates made my pinky drop off... so I just took an extended base and dremeled the hook part so my pinky could fit comfortably.

PX15 told you most everything you need to know, lots of good info. I have a P2000 in 40that Ive had since they came out. Not one failure in thousands of rounds.

My buddy carries the SK in 9mm and I dont think the recoil is bad at all. He bought his because he shot mine. I prefer a slimmer design for carry in a 1911 but I will never sell any of my HKs.
