Merry Christmas and a puzzle from Santa!

DH, in his Santa guise, gifted me with a pristine 1920 Colt Police Positive (per the serial number stamped on the crane). It appears to be all original, and matches the description on the Colt site as being a first version. Based on measurements of the cylinders and barrel, as well as the...

DH messed with my Detective Special - now I need help!

farm23, that's what we're looking at doing. I spoke with a different agent at Colt to get dimensions, and she was with the repair boss at the time who said he thinks he has what I need. Call tag arrived this morning, and I'm off to package it up and send it out! Rebecca

leadbutt - thanks, but they do not have what I need for a DS. Haywood - thanks to you too, but they only do Colt 1911's. I think it's all covered now - but once again, thanks to all for the assistance. Rebecca

DH messed with my Detective Special - now I need help!

Ok, in my case, the DH may stand for doggoned husband, darling husband, doofus husband, or dear husband. It may stand for one thing when I type it, and another an hour later. You guys are lucky you aren't forum junkies - there are dozens of acronyms in use! I bet I could seriously confuse a...

dimensions Colt Detective Special front sight?

420 Stainless - I'm not sure of protocol on this site for copying someone else's pics... however, from that thread, mine is very similar to Frank Ettin's, possibly Cosmoline's, and the two belonging to CZ 75 BD. The sight is not the full ramp like a 3rd gen would be, and not a half moon...

dimensions Colt Detective Special front sight?

Thanks, Deaf Smith. Yup, called/checked the website on each of them, no luck. HOWEVER - I called Colt to get dimensions on the sight, and wound up talking with a different person this time than before. She went to check with the repair department, who said they might actually have the proper...

DH messed with my Detective Special - now I need help!

rswartsell - Yeah, the gal on the phone when I called today was very open about the fact that they haven't had what I'm looking for in stock for over a year, and are unlikely to get any soon. I was checking with them to find out if they had a person who was casting parts (similar to some...

DH messed with my Detective Special - now I need help!

Oh, Officer's Wife, I absolutely LOVE you! DH has been proud to tell his friends for years that when we married, I promised I'd never slug him. Then he'd point out that (at that time) I had pistol/rifle instructor certification... and let them draw their own conclusions. Rebecca

LOL! Telling her that under an hour with a steel bar stock, a hacksaw, and a file could put her baby back together properly? Rebecca

DH messed with my Detective Special - now I need help!

RC - thanks for your opinion. May I ask how well that worked on YOUR wife when YOU damaged her pet? I love DH, and he does do custom steel fabrications in a manufacturing plant, but he does not work on guns and I don't want him to. I want what I had, which is why I'm having experienced people...

dimensions Colt Detective Special front sight?

Thanks, Oldfuff. I KNOW I should have done that -sorry I forgot! This is a 1969 Colt Detective Special, .38, 2 inch barrel. Serial is A311XX. The barrel has an unshrouded ejector rod, and the sight did NOT extend the length of the barrel as it did on 3rd gen shrouded ones. I have (from...

dimensions Colt Detective Special front sight?

I posted an earlier thread (see http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=720200 if you're interested - but probably not necessary). I'm having a new front sight made to replace the broken one from my 1969 Colt Detective Special .38 . I know that at least one poster on the original thread...

DH messed with my Detective Special - now I need help!

Ok, thanks all! Decision appears to have been made! Yes, the barrel listed on gunbrokers.com is almost correct: it's shrouded instead of unshrouded, but is the correct length. The barrels on numrich are too long unless I put a nickel barrel on a blued frame... I'm not *quite* that silly, LOL...
