I was able to snag a 3 inch barrel Cowboy Defender in 45/410 for a good price. Haven't had a chance to get to the range or buy ammo for it yet, though. Can anyone comment on how the recoil is with light .45 colt cowboy action loads (for instance, maybe a 200 gr bullet at 650fps)? Just...

.22lr revolver - how challenging to keep clean?

Thanks all. I admit I probably do clean too often. My main concern with a .22lr revolver is lead fouling. I only shot lead round nose bullets in my .357 revolver *once*. 158 grain LRN target loads. After a box of 50, there was a bunch of lead fouling in the chamber throats and barrel...

.22lr revolver - how challenging to keep clean?

I own a couple .38/357 revolvers. Love them, but also hate cleaning them. Compared to my auto pistols which take about 10 minutes to clean, I usually spend 30-60 minutes cleaning my revolvers, due to having a barrel plus 6 chambers to clean. I'm thinking a .22lr revolver would be even more...

    Bond Arms

Question for all the Bond derringer users: I am thinking of finally buying one of these, but I have heard so many mixed opinions on the trigger pull. Bond says about a 7 pound trigger pull weight on their website, which doesn't sound too bad. I know about the "back and downward" motion of...

Noise level of .32 S&W long revolver

I have an interest in the .32 S&W long cartridge, but I have never fired a revolver chambered in this cartridge before. I have seen it mentioned often that it has perhaps the mildest report of any centerfire pistol cartridge. I have even heard someone claim that it has a milder report than a...

Bond Arms--Do they need more calibers?

I would love to get the 6-inch 357 barrel if they ever get them back in stock. Not much practical purpose I guess, but would probably be a really fun gun to shoot with 38 specials.

    Performance of .32 S&W Long in a .327?

So I have a strange fascination with the .32 S&W long, and I feel its a shame that there are essentially no more new production guns in this caliber available (in the US at least). I think it definitely fills a niche for those who may be looking for a centerfire caliber with very low recoil...

Bond Arms--Do they need more calibers?

Just read through this whole topic. Very informative discussion on the Bond derringers. Has anyone tried to order a replacement barrel recently? I was disappointed to see that the barrels are no longer sold on their website, and they must now be ordered through a dealer. Most of the...

Pistols that are less susceptible to limp-wrist malfunctions?

I've primary been a revolver user in the past. Usually milder calibers like .38 special. As a result my grip/arm stance is pretty relaxed overall. I'm used to shooting with my elbows bent slightly to allow the gun to "roll" with the recoil. I like this method because the recoil seems to be...

Recoil level of Bersa Thunder 380?

I am considering picking up a Bersa Thunder 380 just to use as a range/fun gun. I always wanted to get a PPK, but they are just too expensive for me to justify buying one. Obviously the PPK is a higher quality gun, but I figure the Bersa comes pretty close in both looks and function, but at...

Mark IV vs. Buckmark vs. S&W Victory - which is easiest to rack?

Thanks for the replies! I didn't realize those cocking handles were available. That should be a good solution if needed.

Mark IV vs. Buckmark vs. S&W Victory - which is easiest to rack?

My only experience with .22lr handguns has been with revolvers and a Walther P22. I am looking to add a full size .22lr semi auto to my collection, such as one of the models mentioned in the title. All three seem to comparable in terms of quality, accuracy, and manual of arms. But i'm...

    Size of S&W model 10 vs. GP100

Great info! I really appreciate all the advice. I think I may pick up one of those compact grips for the GP100 to see if that makes it more manageable. But those old model 10s sure are great looking guns and I think I will need to add one to the collection. Thanks again

    Size of S&W model 10 vs. GP100

Thanks for the replies. I have the stock Hogue rubber grips that came with the gun. Since I only shoot 38 special, I feel like the GP100 is way more gun that I need. I'm gonna look for a shop that has a K-frame in stock so I can see how it feels in the hand. Thanks again!

    Size of S&W model 10 vs. GP100

Let me start by saying I have very small hands/fingers (for a guy). I generally wear medium size gloves. I've owned a GP100 for many years now. I do love the gun, but I could never really shoot it very well in double action. In single action mode, it is a tack driver with 38 target loads...

    Muzzle blast/noise level - 9mm vs .380

Thanks for all the helpful replies. Yes, I have heard a lot about the snappy recoil (and heavy, hard to rack recoil springs) on blowback 380's. Shame because I always thought that guns like the PPK and Beretta Cheetah were really nice looking, classic firearms. As far as 380's go, we have...

    Muzzle blast/noise level - 9mm vs .380

Funny you should mention the Browning 1911 380, I was thinking that might be a great choice for my wife as well. 4.25 barrel, locked breech, single stack. However the reviews seem to be mixed, and I feel the price is a bit outrageous for what it is. Great looking gun though.

    Muzzle blast/noise level - 9mm vs .380

I also dislike indoor ranges. We shoot at an outdoor range, but there is a tin roof overhang that tends to reflect the sound back somewhat.

    Muzzle blast/noise level - 9mm vs .380

I appreciate the reply. It sounds like the 9mm 1911 might be a good choice. Single stack so it would fit her smaller hands, and good heft to absorb recoil. Would 147gr. 9mm at subsonic speed produce less muzzle blast than 115 gr rounds? I primarily shoot revolvers so i'm not too familiar...

    Muzzle blast/noise level - 9mm vs .380

Hey all, My wife enjoys going to the range with me, but she is pretty sensitive to muzzle blast/noise. Even with plugs and muffs, she still doesn't like shooting heavy calibers. She'll usually just stick to shooting 22lr for this reason. She has fired my GP100 with some mild 38 special...
