What's the scariest sound in the world?

If you were breaking into a home in the middle of the night, what sound would cause you to foul your britches? The sound of a round getting jacked into a pump shotgun? The sound of 1911 slide being racked? Any others? IMHO, it would be a tough choice between the pump shotty and the 1911.

    Low end scopes?

I agree with AH-1 I've tried BSA, Simmons and Tasco - both fixed and variable power. None of them are good enough to even put on a 22. I eventually just put the best of them (the Tasco) on my air rifle. Like everything else, you generally get what you pay for unless you go crazy with buying...

    BEST .22 THERE IS?

Like most other topics... you will get as many opinions as there are people replying to the thread. My old Savage/Stevens and Winchester autos were accurate but they were so prone to jamming I had to feed them single shot. They were a PITA so I got rid of them. I've got a Marlin bolt action...

    I got a new Remmy #552

I gots a new Remmy 22 auto-getum. I've generally been sceptical about 22 autos reliability for several years but I recently shot my son's old Rem nylon stock 22. It never jammed so I got enough confidence in Remington to get a new model 552. The fit and the finish are great. The wood is...

    H-110 it is!

It's been my experience H-110 and 296 are very foul burning in my model 25-5 45 Colt even at near max loads with magnum primers using Hornady's recipe for 250 grain bullets at 900 FPS. In fact, crud built so badly up between the cylinder and the frame, it seized up after about 30 rounds. I...

45ACP: One powder for practice & carry?

I like Unique but I have a 3 1/2" bbl compact 45 so I decided to use a faster burning powder to avoid possible muzzle flash/blast. Red Dot burns very clean and works well for me. I suppose Bullseye would work as well.

    Blue dot powder and .45acp.

If you want something faster burning, you might consider using Unique. It's been my experience that the Winny/Hodgden stuff is extremely foul burning. Regardless which powder you use, it would be best to start with the most conservative loading.

    Are all primers the same?

I've have too many Winchester duds to trust them anymore. I've had good luck with CCI. What part of Arkansas are you in? By the way, you beat me to the THR user name "Arkie" by a couple of weeks.

    New Brass Cases...which?

USSR, I thought about a possible headspace problem but I don't have any trouble with Rem or Fed brass. Also, the odds of all three of my 30-30 and both my 30-06 rifles having headspace problems are pretty slim. Two of the rifle have less than 200 rounds run thru them. Winchester brass...

    New Brass Cases...which?

Any of them except Winchester is ok. It's been my experience that even Winny factory ammo's brass blows out, usually at a spot just above the head. I would have suspected the rifle's chamber but the blow-outs happen with all my 30-30's and 30-06's

so everybody says the ruger mkii is a *** to clean

The saying "it's like sticking a wet noodle up a wildcat's @$$" comes to mind. My Mark II is the onliest gun that I don't field strip and clean after every time I use it because it is such a PIA.

Teen Injures Self with .22 Cartridge

I believe the story cuz I've seen kids do stupider things than that. I remember seeing a bunch of boys taping the butt of a .22 round onto the muzzle of a BB gun with electricians tape. It wasn't too accurate but it did fire the round reliably and the .22 case didn't rupture. When they...

Help: I can shoot a rifle but I can't for the life shoot a shotgun, Hints please?

I've got the same problem. By the time I've got the gun to my shoulder, the barrel on the bird (or clay), and advanced it to get the lead, the bird is way out of range. When I try to rush it, I just get flustered. It amazes me some guys like my dad could seem to take their time and yet be so...

    5 most useful handgun powders

    1. Unique 2. Red Dot 3. Blue Dot or 2400 I avoid the Win and Hodgden stuff. It has been waaay too foul burning for me.

    New reloader with questions

I would definitely stay away from HS6. It has been my experience that it is extremely foul burning in every load that doesn't use heavy bullets at max velocities. Even under those conditions, it isn't clean burning and it has large amounts of muzzle flash and muzzle blast (even in long...

Anyone else give up on autoloaders?

Well, I haven't sold any of my pistols but I don't have confidence in their reliability. It seems there are two types of pistol owners - those who have unreliable pistols and those who lie about their pistol's reliability. My S&Ws and Ruger revolvers are waaay more dependable than my Colt &...

Most ridiculous gun moment in a movie or TV show.

Everytime John Wayne shot a revolver he used a punching motion rather than simply lining up the sights and squeezing the trigger. I guess that extra bit of forward progress gave the bullet a bit more velocity.

    I bought a new Wingmaster 12 gauge

I was worried about getting a new shotgun because I've heard "they don't build 'em like they used to" so much. Anyway, I took the plunge and got a new 870 with beautiful walnut last weekend. The good news is the action is slicker than a snotty marble and the fit and finish is as good as any 40...

Happyness is 50 New Handloads of .357

Ditto to what caz223 said. 2400 is my first choice for heavier bullets in 357 and 45 Colt. I use Blue Dot for the lighter bullets. Still, your loads should work very well for you.
