Help with 1911 while hunting wearing a backpack

Yo Mama, Just and FYI on drop thigh holsters. I've tried them for hiking, and talked to several people who use them for work... the general consensus is they suck to walk in. They are great if you are going to be riding in a vehicle and may need to draw your pistol, but walking with one for...

    Belted Magnums

Interesting, So the main difference between an accurate belted and non-belted round is the belted cartridge takes a little more work to acheive the same level of tolerance as a non-belted round?

    Belted Magnums

I was told by someone who owns and shoots several belted magnums, that they are less accurate than non-belted catridges. He explained that this was because the rounds headspaced off the belt, and there was usually a bit more tolerance up by the bullet. My question is would it be feasable to...

Which .45 ACP Handgun Would You Choose?

Between the P220r and the 1911 it's kind of a toss-up in my opinion. Both are great design, but the ergonomics are different between the two. The P220 that I've shot was a tac-driver. I haven't shot their 1911, but if it is up to Sig's usual quality it should be plenty accurate. The glock...

    Marshmallow dissapointment

Eggs are a lot of fun, but pricey. Potatos make a nice explosion with 22lr, and can be shot several times befor they are all used up.

    Stupid mistakes and private ranges

From what I understand, you opened the case and the muzzle happend to be pointing right at the RO. It might just be me, but I don't generally consider it being flaged if the gun is just sitting there with no one touching it. That changes the second someone puts a hand on it, but by itself it...

why do so many people say revolvers are more reliable than autoloaders?

Probably not, unless it was a manufacturing defect. I haven't had any problems since then with that gun, just now I make a point to regularly change out my carry ammo. IIRC I was shooting Corbon .38 +P that was a few years old, but the gun was designed and rated to handle +P rounds. Either...

why do so many people say revolvers are more reliable than autoloaders?

Revolver Failure! Don't get me wrong, I love revolvers, but I had an experience that taught me that nothing is perfect. While at the Range one day I decided to get a little extra practice with my S&W 637 airweight. Now to save money I generally shoot cheap .38s out of it for most of the...

    Keltec RFB - Need Help!

Not getting into the discussion of "is it worth the $$$". If you want it, you want it. That being said, They are often on gunbroker, but expect to pay through the nose. Otherwise, go around to your local gunstores and see if anyone will order one for you. Unless they are crooks, the price...

    Easiest gun to build (recommendation)?

BP kit builds can be alot of fun if you like wood working, lots of room to carve and decorate the stock. For modern Guns I would say AR or FAL would be the easiest. The FAL requires no special tool except pin gauges and go/no-go gauges; everything just bolts together. The downside it...

FNAR vs browning BAR vs Beneli R1 vs Remington 750 in 308

Eou, it sounds like you want a rifle that has a large caliber, high capacity, low weight and is accurate. You might be able to get most of those, but not all. As a FAL owner, I know that 20 rounds of .308 is heavy, and a barrel has to be pretty heavy to hold it's zero for .308. You could...

    M1A Barrel length 18.5'' or 22'' standard?

Unless you are recoil sensitive or live in a state that bans "flash hiders" I would recommend the Smith Vortex. They work great and won't make you rifle any louder like some muzzle brakes. I am unsure if the Smith brake will increase the noise, but you could probably call and ask.

Stag Arms: 2012 Executive Survivor's Kit

the price for the gear is good, but 1 MRE is kind of silly. Sure I could nurse 1 MRE for 2 days or more if I had to, but for this kind of kit I'd either want more food, or more equipment. get rid of the MRE and add a belt with a mag pouch and gp pouch to carry all that gear if you need to...

    M1A Barrel length 18.5'' or 22'' standard?

I don't have an M1A, but I've owned FALs in standard 21" and carbine 17.25" lengh barrels. IIRCC the loss of velocity is about 100 fps at the muzzle, not a big loss. The carbine does have a nice bark to it, but I wouldn't exactly shoot either without double hearing protection. The shorter...

    Dutluth Trading Co.

I normally carry a S&W j-frame in a High Noon Down Under IWB (not a big gun I know), or a 1911 in a Galco pancake. After two years of wear I can take the belt off, grab it in the middle between thumb and forefinger and try to curl the edges. I cannot even bend the width of the belt an 1/8" out...

    Dutluth Trading Co.

I haven't used the Dutluth belt, but I bought this Blade Tech belt 2 years ago and couldn't be happier with it. I've worn it pretty much every day for 2 years and it is still stiff. The buckle is held on by two heavy duty hex screws that you can undo and wear your own buckle, if that's your...
