WSP primers in Dillon RL550B... Nothing But Problems

Yeah... we all have those kind of moments (or days) I'm sure. I was so sure I had the proper magazine tube in there, that I didn't even consider that it could be the wrong one. That's what I don't like about Dillon's manual for the 550... there are several instances in the text where they...

WSP primers in Dillon RL550B... Nothing But Problems

OK... just got back from work. Here's what I did in fighting with this thing last night... Cleaned residual oil off of the primer slide that had migrated over from the ram. No change. Actually made the primer slide a little "sticky" in operation due to lack of lubrication. Replaced the red...

WSP primers in Dillon RL550B... Nothing But Problems

Anybody have any issues with Winchester Small Pistol primers in your Dillon? I finished up with some CCI's that for the most part worked well. But I had a few hundred Winchesters that I wanted to use up, so I switched over to them, and it was downhill from there. I ended up using about 350 of...

USA1 Billet Toolheads for 550 Dillon

I don't have any of the USA1 toolheads, but I do have a few of the Jofer USA (also on eBay) toolheads. They are CNC machined from 6061 bar stock, and anodized. The OEM Dillon toolheads are cast aluminum. I would say that the aftermarket toolheads are probably higher quality than the OEM...

    38 Special practice loads

Hey that sounds pretty neat... I'll have to check it out. I've got more RedDot on hand than Bullseye, so I think that's whats going to get used. 4.0gr Red Dot is exactly what I was thinking... but I haven't checked it against the Lyman manual to get a rough idea what the velocity would be...

    38 Special practice loads

I'm not sure about the BHN, but I would assume they're around 18, since they're commercial cast. They're "Suter's Choice", 125gr RNFP. Yep, memory fail... I was thinking they were 120gr RN cast. Specifically, they're going to be loaded for a S&W 638, 2.5" bbl. IIRC. But the majority of them...

    38 Special practice loads

That's what I was using with the 120's... 3.0gr of Red Dot. Powderpuffs with the 120's... almost like a stout .22 in the J Frame.

    How does this brass look?

OK, with that, FIRST, I have to say that I have exactly ZERO experience with AR's, or their operation... That said.... The thing I see in your cases that concerns me the most is especially noticeable in the 3rd and 4th rounds from the top in your pics... which show a bit of primer flattening...

    How does this brass look?

I think before reading the pressure signs on that brass, it would be beneficial to know a little more information... What firearm? Auto (AR15) or a bolt action? How was the brass resized prior to this firing? FL resized, or neck sized only? What Primers were used? Condition of the primer...

    38 Special practice loads

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to load a bunch of 38 Special practice rounds. Since the 'special has been around a while, and there's lots of experience with it, I don't see any real reason for me to go out and find a good load "from scratch" when I'm sure there are many of you guys out there...

    Alliant Steel

Has anyone used Alliant Steel for anything other than the advertised steel shotshell application? I bought a pound of it a couple of years ago to try in 12ga deer slug loads, but never got around to trying it. Just wondering if anyone else has experimented with it?

Is there a worthwhile difference in quality of various die manufacturers?

I've got dies from most all the manufacturers as well, but my favorite and the brand I have the most of has always been Redding. They are just nice... but I can't say that they are "better" (in terms of making quality ammunition) than RCBS or Lee or Hornady. But to hold them in your hand, to...

    Magnum primers

That is one of the ways that they control the burning rate. Flattening increases the surface area and increases the burning rate.

Most oddball cartridge you load for?

Well let's see… 7.62x39 (I don't think it is too common to handload...) 22PPC 7BR 30-221 (300 Whisper, now known as 300 Blackout for the newbs) My wildcat that an old buddy and I designed for IHMSA called 300 SiempelDude... it is the 445 SuperMag necked down to .308 I kinda like the oddballs.

    My first W244 loads

That's what I was suspecting... but I was too lazy to get out a reloading manual to get the energy formula... or type it into google for that matter and see if the numbers matched...LOL Thanks!!!

    My first W244 loads

What is the "Force" number in your results? I know I have seen that before, but I can't remember what it is.

    hi skor 800x

I've played around with 800X in 40S&W a little bit with some cast and coated 180gr bullets. I'll agree that it's "blasty"... also makes a nice big fireball. Once it gets a little warmer better weather, I'll get out the chrony and see what it does... but I like it so far. It meters fairly well...

Dillon 550 spent primer catcher doodad

I just got one of the doodad's from Etsy as well, it arrived in about 6 days from Germany, and survived the trip. Haven't had a chance to use it yet though.

    Favorite old school reloading equipment

Nothing really "old" except for my 1972 vintage RCBS JR2 press and matching Uniflow powder measure. Dad bought it for reloading his 22-250 back then.

    When is brass unreloadable?

When is the primer pocket loose? When you can seat it with your bare fingers... when you seat the primer, and it falls out on its own. I used to shoot IHMSA with 300 Whisper... waaay back before it became known as the trendy 300Blackout... back when we had to make our own brass. Used to push...
