Would you use a free background check service?

Here in NC I ask to see a Concealed Carry permit or permit to purchase a handgun, I just want to know they were able to get one, I don't record it.

First gun you let your child/grandchild other kid shoot

Started the Grand Daughter with a Daisy Scout, moved up to a Slavia 618 pellet rifle, then a CZ Scout. She's sixteen now and going to UNC School of the Arts and not a Gunny now, hopefully I'll get her back to it some day down the road, at worst she knows how to safely handle both long guns...

Cheap Off-Brand Handgun That Turned out to be a Tack-Driver

TriStar/Canik copy of the CZ 75...$225 OTD from a local shop, actually shoots as well as my CZ 75B Omega.... Added night sights to both...my Truck gun now. Stamped S120 on the side, shoots really well. Whoever traded it end must have never shot it, its stamped 18 for 2018 build date. Go...

Quest for the "ideal for you" carry gun

EDC? What day is it? I've flipped and flopped right now I've found a IWB that works for me so a 43x and a spare mag 90% of the time. On those days when the 43x won't work well with what I'm wearing a P32 in right front pocket with a spare mag in another pocket. Gold Dots for both. There is a...

38's or 357's for lever gun home defense?

Worked for a Sheriff that would not let us carry rifle caliber Carbines in our vehicles, I carried a Marlin Camp 9 for a while which worked pretty well and a Marlin 1894 in .357 Magnum for a while, both worked but I suspect the .357 would have been the better fight stopper. YMMV as they say.

    Experience with the .17 WSM?

Had one of the early HB Stainless in synthetic stock, it did well to hold an inch at 50 yards, tried every trick the folks on RFC came up with and no real improvement...resigned to live with it which mostly meant shooting my .17hmr's instead. Then I caught a lightly used CZ 527 Varmint in .17HH...

The wages of stupid: homeowner shot in Greenville, SC

As a former Officer and a home owner I can see both sides of this one, just glad it wasn't worse than it was. I'd love to know what kind of cell phone generated the call and avoid the heck out of it.

    Dogs on property...

A accurate medium power Air Rifle with a shot to their rear end will usually keep an annoying animal away without permanent harm, repeat visits may require more advanced actions but I agree that discussions with others can backfire on you. Shooting Pets in NC can be a felony depending on the...

    32 H&R fans rejoice

Owned one of these in 1977 while living in Alabama, with Federal 125 JHP's it was a handful and the shroud kept working loose, still a lot of power in a not so large package.

S&W Model 69: What say you!?!?

As soon as the 4 1/4" hit the market my hunting Partner and I bought them, shot little but carried a good bit, practice with .44 Specials and carry full on .44 Magnums when hunting, at my rate of use it will last forever. :)

    SAA caliber choices?

I've recently purchased Taylor/Ubertis in .32-20 and .45 Colt, great fun. The .32-20 due to owning a Marlin 1894 in that caliber and when I found how much fun it was to shoot the .45 Colt became a must have. No regrets as both are accurate and fun to own/shoot. .32-20 The pair together.

How do you shoot the J frame effectively?

"back in the day" we had to qualify with our leg guns the same as our duty weapons and with the same ammo we carried, took a little practice but it wasn't real hard. A M38 with full power 158 SWC's at 50 yards prone and barricade required paying attention but was routinely done. M38 and...

    7.62x39 RAR

Two of the last three Deer I've shot were with my CZ 527 in 7.62x39 using the 123 gr. Hornady loads, one dropped in her tracks and the other managed to make it 30 yards into the edge of some woods. Both where shot at 220-225 yards lasered, its an excellent little deer rifle. I've never seen any...

    Marlin 1894CS

I've owned many 1894's over the years, currently have a .32-20 and a .357, have owned .44 magnum and .218 Bee but let them get away, nice shooting and handy.

    What Gun For Bears?

I picked up a CZ 550 FS in 9.3 x 62 about 5 years ago, figured with good bullets it would handle all I'd ever need to handle with proper loads at least, at the time there was a piece of land in Eastern NC in the Family where some decent Black Bears hung out, unfortunately the land was sold...
