Are you a fan of the 44 Special?

Huge fan of the .44 Spl. I own 2. One is a Taurus Ultra light 2", 5-shot w/ ribber grips and sees home defense duty. The other is a 5-shot Charter Arms "Pug" 2" w/after market rubber "boot grips" or grip (it may be a one piece deal). This has replaced my 1911s and Sig P220 for the summer ...and...

    Biggest cartridge flops ...

.348 Winchester...great cartridge and carbine for black bear and big bucks in the Eastern woods. It would also make an almost perfect hog gun. Now, all I have to do is find one! A flop? Certainly not!

my 357 or my 44 Special?

I love my .45ACPs and have a flock of them. However, I find my .44Spl., 2" Charter Arms Pug, 5 shot an ideal carry piece for unexpected social encounters. I load. My own with either a premium heavy JHP or. A heavy LSWC. The exterior. Ballistics on these are very close to a .45ACP. YMMV...

    Favorite short barrel revolver

Surprised myself. Out of the entire collection, my EDC is a 2", Charter Arms Pug, a lightweight, 5-shot .44 Spl.

Depreciation/used prices on everything gun related

When most were buying gold & silver, I plunged into lead and brass. I landed with my butt in the butter tub. Also, very early on I had a major, major score of cheap primers. I've done rather well with my investments.

How old were you when you got your first gun?

I was a 16 year-old HS sophomore at one of the best private schools in the state. The problem was that the school was in a neighborhood that would make most of Detroit look like Sarasota. Because I was active in several extra-curriculum activities, I was often waiting for the last bus to the...

    Never Forget

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and...

    shooting=therapy

Hussker Fan, nothing helps keep the voices down like the bark of my 44. Mag. or redhot, screamin' .357s. Of course, a .45 ACP ain't nothing to laugh at. And, the VA says I'm nuts!:neener:

    bear rifle

Maybe I missed it, but are we talking black or brown bear? For black bear, .348 Win. (though tough to find) is Big Time Serious Black Bear medicine. Can't get one of those, get any .30-06. For Black or brown, a well placed shot with the right bullet a .30-06 will do the job.

    Over 60 yrs old carry?

I'm 65 and carry either a full-size 1911 or my Sig 220, but I am becoming attached to my new Charter .44 Spl. Bulldog.

Would you feel safe with an m1 garand in grizzly country?

Been to Alaska (if you haven't been there, go. Only then will you understand the word "Awesome.") My Garand is my favorite rifle and truly believe that if in North America, if you can't kill it with a 30.06, you shouldn't have been messing around in there anyway. Even with an adjustable gas...

My new .357 mag load with 2400.

I use 2400 w/ 158 LSWC out of a 6-1/2" Ruger New Model Blackhawk. My first loads used data from an older Alliant manual. Let's just say that current load info is SIGNIFICANTLY less powder than earlier. WOW!!! Now, that was an introduction to .357 mag reloading, and a testament to the strength...

    Over 60 yrs old carry?

Old Fart here. Over 65 and still tote a 1911,usually. Sometimes a Hi-Power or a Sig. If I print and anybody comments, I just ask if they want to help change my colostomy bag. That usually settles 'em down.

    Favored Synthetic Gun Oil?

Breakfree CLP and FP-10. I like the FP-10 and have a quart, which will last me through the next three zombie invasions and Democrat administrations. As a rule (from my Garand usage), if it rolls, oil it. If it slides, grease it. Any moly grease for most of us here. YMMV

    XD sight options

"SureSights" Avalanche, The sights you're talking about were (are?) "SureSights". I may be one of the very few people who actually received a set I bought. I had a local (Sarasota) "gunsmith":cuss: install them on a 4" XD45. They are different. But, they are very fast, once you adapt to the...

    Are guns your primary hobby?

I enjoy firearms, but they are not my primary hobby. Turning money into smoke and noise is my primary hobby; everything else -- the guns, reloading, gunsmithing, research, etc. -- simply feeds the money into smoke and noise thing.
