I let the action close w/o the barrel on

My manual on my Browning Maxus states explicitly to: "never allow the action to slam closed by pressing the bolt release button without the barrel installed. If the bolt is released forward with the barrel removed, the operating handle will strike the receiver and cause damage." well, when...

    SBEII or Maxus?

Hi guys, I'm familiar with O/U's for my bird hunting but I have been really seeing the merits of a good auto for ducks. I keep hearing to avoid gas models as the rings will fail, the complicated actions will get crudded up with seawater and be hard to clean, in fewer words the inertia model...

Massachusetts index finger opening asst opening knives illegal?

Someone on another site (Northeastshooters.com) said that a case was ruled on stating that assisted opening knives, if they can be opened with an index finger (a portion of the knife sticks through the handle) were considered switchblades and the case even lost on appeal. I can't seem to find it...

    Joining the NRA

Is not a sign of activism/activism topic? I'm confused.

What does everybody think of the new jacket that came with the recent promotional "upgrade to Life" deal? (Not the leather one).

    Kershaw/assisted opening knives

I am getting conflicting info over whether these knives are legal to carry in Quebec Province Canada and/or Massachusetts. As I read the law in MA it appears only that if you commit a crime and are carrying one then you are in more trouble. Anyone know? Thanks-Steve

    Boston, MA laws

My friend just took a course at Smith and Wesson (which he said was great). He informed me that his instructor stated that Boston has it's own concealed carry law i.e. that you can't carry in Boston if you have a CCP from another city. I'd never heard that! Has anything changed or can you still...

    The Deer Hunter Movie

I just caught some of the move The Deer Hunter tonight-anyone know what rifle and scope the character/lead "Michael" is using? Thanks Steve

    Jeremiah Johnson Hawken

Flintlock or percussion? I am taking a BP course now and I am leaning toward a flint but I confess that the JJ movie first stirred my interest. What did he shoot or the mountain men of that time. I know that I am supposed to start with a percussion but I am a traditional bowhunter so I do have...

    Seecamp 32 holster

Hi I am debating as to whether to carry my new Seecamp LWS-32 just in my pocket or whether to try the leather "square" holster they advertise or something else. I don't want to be fumbling about if the worse happened. Anyone have experience in this area/any holster reccomendations? Thanks...

    LeFever SXS "coach gun"

A friend wants to sell me an SXS, 18 inches (cut down, pistol grip). Looks like a pirate gun if you know what I mean. He said he put about $400 coating it etc. to have as an SD gun on his boat. Willing to let it go for $300. Comments? I know very little about these guns and this seems like a...

Hunting with Your Sporting Clays Gun

I was wondering how many hunt with their SC gun? I have a Mossberg 500 but just traded in my field Orion for a Browning XS 30" and I'd planned to hunt with it. My friend says he would cry if he got scratches on his SC gun! Well, I can't afford another O/U right now and never saw a problem with...

    O/U multi-use choice-need advice from the experts

I have only been shooting shotguns for 2-3 years. I started with a Weatherby Orion II, 28" and averaged 21 my first season. I also started hunting pheasants, etc. I went with a friend to a gun store "just to look" and ended up trading in my Weatherby for an as new, in box, Citori XS, SC with a...

Hi, Anyone know where I can get one (or can post a copy) of those "shooting wheels"/charts that show what your shooting errors are i.e. "jerking", "anticipating recoil" etc. Thanks Steve

    Trading 342 for Sig 229

I am thinking of trading these guns. Is there any reaso to think that the 342PD will increase in value since S&W doesn't make them anymore or did they produce so many that it really doesn't matter? Thanks!

    New, need advice

Hi! I am a traditional bowhunter who really wants to get into this blackpowder hunting season. Being a "traditionalist" I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction-I am thinking quality Hawken, .50 caliber, Jeremiah Johnson (ok, I admit it) stuff. :D I am hoping someone could...

    Federal Hydroshoks in 342PD

Hi, I read somewhere that this ammo wouldn't open up when fired from such a gun and that a 158gr SWC would do better for PD. Anyone have any proof/facts on this? I'd settle for opinions but would prefer hard data. Thanks Steve

    Weatherby Browning

Hi! I'm looking for comparisons between say a Weatherby Orion II and a Browning Citori. Looks, form, function? The Weatherby's seem to run a few hundred cheaper for comparable models. Am I missing anything in not spending extra for the Citori, even looks/quality of materials? Thanks!

    OLeg Poster

Anyone have the poster with the woman with the RIFLE (not handgun) that says: "An intruder wouldn't try and disarm this woman. Your elected rep will do it for him!" Oleg doesn't have the rifle one on his site anymore and I'd like to use it as wallpaper. What rifle is that? Thanks! Steve

    Steel shot and full chokes

Is this verbotten on all shotguns? Why-what does it do/could do? I shot about 30 rounds out of my Weatherby O/U. So far, I don't think that there has been any damage but then someone saiad that's a no-no but couldn't remember why. Thanks Steve
