    1911 grip bushing problem

Yes, all the reasons why one should use slotted screws for retaining one's grips are documentented. But, if you use screws requiring an allen wrench, and use the short arm to tighten, rarely, will you over-tighten (over-torque) the screw.

    Dysfunctional Half-Cock 1911?

Sounds like an inspection of the 1/4 cock or half-cock ledge is in order. However, there is no definitive reason, that I know of, for you to attempt to drop the hammer from the half-cock position using the apparent trigger pressure you've described. Checking to insure the hammer doesn't drop...

    night sights

I'm not familiar with the CZ, but, did look at it on-line. I'm a 1911 user and sights for such generally are meant to be drifted right to left. It is a fairly easy job, just make sure you purchase sights designed for the milling on your slide. Further, use a brass punch and about an 8oz...

    1911 feeding/extracting problem

I'm hoping Tuner will chime in, but, here's my 2 cents. First, unfortunately, your pics are a little too blurry for my old eyes to interpret the exact issue. Second, you have described 2 separate and distinct problems in your subject line. They can be either inclusive or exclusive of each...

    model seven youth stock?

McMillan I bought my son a Model 7, 2 years ago (7-08). I looked for the syn stock but couldn't find one. McMillan can make you one, but, it will cost more than the entire rifle. So he's shooting the walnut furniture. I bought a adult McMillan so he'd have it once he grew into the...

I'll probably regret posting this, but here it goes...

Can't ya'll just see the surprise on the face of a bad guy with deadly intent if your GF, W or SO pulled a PINK Glock or 1911 out of her purse! Talk about stoppin' dead in their tracks!

Buying a gun for my daughter?

I bought my 15 y.o. daughter a Kimber Target Stainless II 9mm last year. Rather, then have the ole man impart bad wisdom and technique, I got her lessens with the resident small arms instructor at our former range. He boosted her confidence and got her acclimated to the recoil of the 9...

    Shop Vise?

This is probably like asking what ammo do you use? But, I'm interested in getting a new shop vise. The Record "fitters" vise doesn't seem to be available in the USA anymore. I am budgeting around < $500. I've looked at Yost and Wilton. Any veterans and old pros with advice...

What about going with Larry Vickers idea...no guide rod at all?

    Frame wear/damage from guide rod

Definitely a ridge, can't mic it but I'd guess it's between 1/32 and 1/64 of an inch. Very easy to feel and see. I thought about lightly stone'ing off the ridges but when I get into areas I'm not sure of I seek advice. Looking at Mr. Browning spec's, I did not see a critical measurement...

What is the most dead solid reliable pistol (autoloader) design ever?

Never, ever had a malfunction with the 220, 226 or the P7M8. (thousands of rounds combined) Can't say the same for my 1911s (Colt/SA), H&K USP Compact (40) and MK23.

    Frame wear/damage from guide rod

Tuner (and others) Just a tad bit east of you outside the capitol city. My porch is still intact and all my dogs are out chasing critters! Anyway, I have a Colt Series 70 (70Bxxxxx) that I am getting ready to overhaul. About 1000 rounds ago, I was given an early Dywer "Gripper" short...

    H&K USP Compact vs. P2000

P2000 or P30....newer engineering. Stay away from the LEM trigger. Great in theory/shooting, but, be prepared to spend big bucks to get the trigger group worked on in the event of a malfunction.

    MARK 23!!!

I'm new and glad I found ya'll! I like all of my sidearms, but, my fav CCW.....my H&K P7 M8! Bullet placement....stiffs in the morgue don't know the difference between a 9mm and a .45" well placed hole or two. Now to the thread..... My 23's a tack driver, but, to carry...a pain in...
