Hi: My mother-in-law showed me a High Std. 22lr this morning that had been in a drawer for 28 years. Blueing and grips are in great shape. Can you tell me anything about this gun or value. Thanx Mike
Hi Bryan: I clipped out an old Guns & Ammo artical from August/02 and it shows the cc/grn & grns/cc for many powders at that time. (1) Varget is 0.0731 cc/grn and 13.680 grns/cc (2) h335 is 0.0645 cc/grn and 15.504 grns/cc (3) h4198 is 0.750 cc/grn and 13.333 grns/cc. Couldn't find Benchmark on...
Hi: Posted on 5/6/08 but only a few responses so I chronographed some loads yesterday. My results were the same as Stinger had stated. A 405grn Bear Creek bullet /13grnTB /1000 velocity /sd7.8 /es18.3 /recoil8.6 / out of my T/C carbine. I was looking for 1150 velocity but as Stinger suggested a...
Stinger: I loaded 13 grn TB as a max but in a phone conversation with Hodgdon the Tech said just keep the Trail Boss "below" the base of the bullet so as not to compress it in any way and create a pressure problem. I cut a section out of some brass and poured 15grn in it and then placed the...
Hi: Wondering if anyone has chronographed loads with 350grn or 405grn with this powder. I loaded the 405grn with max. TB and got a .591 group at 50 yds. for 5 rounds. I'm looking to get 1150 velocity out of a 26" T/C barrel. THANX
I,ve shot small bore(22lr.) rifle silhouette with a T/C carbine and had good results. Now I,m wondering if a 7-30 Waters 26" barrel for high power rifle silhouette would work on the rams with a 140gr.bullet at 2500fps.? If so what would be a good choice. Is there any caliber in the Contender...
Katana8869, My concern is that I don't think? your Dad would have loaded a full 2grn. of IMR 4198 beyond safe load data? The make of the carbine isn't the issue it's the pressure of the load.
I wouldn't be so sure your DAD used IMR 4198 in those loads. The Hodgdon Annual Manual shows 24.0 grn. of IMR 4198 for 42,500cup (max) He may have used H4198 which ranges from 24.5 to 26.5grn for 40,400cup (max) I think I would at least take one apart and look at the color of the powder which...
I notice my Vaquero likes rnfp bullets better than all others. The only thing I can figure is that the bullets ogive aligns with the chamber and forcing cone just right and will shoot 3/4" at 20 yards with lead bullets. That same Ruger also shoots Speer Gold Dot bullets real well and that bullet...
We have the same problem with extreme temperatures here in Arizona and I settled on H4895 & Varget years ago. My chronograph likes Varget better but it seems H4895 performs just as well on the target. I use std Fed primers on all .223 loads but could'nt tell you if it helps or not ? Maybe a...
I carry a Ruger sp101 on the trail with 180grn. Fed (cast core)and they only have 1000fps. velocity from that short barrel. I realize it weighs more than your Airweight but I think the recoil is easier to handle for me than the 158grn. Hydra Shok and the bullet to me is better for a trail cartridge.
I dont know if you mean an XTP bullet or something I'm not familiar with but if an XTB is jacketed IMR doesn't show any loads with anything other than lead or with gas checks. You might need to find out if this is safe? I load mid range in my pistol with universal clays and you'll get a little...
HI: I shoot a T/C 21"barrel w/1in14 twist. The best loads in my carbine are with 52grn V-max,26grn Varget,Fed 205, It chronographs 3078 fps, 28.4 es,11.3 sd. You'll also find 26 grn of H4895 is just as good and a tad faster 3200fps.
Hi: I carry the short barrel sp101 in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster when I'm in Wranglers. I think the pant style makes the difference because it weighs around 23oz. empty. The rubber grip makes it a tad harder to pull out as opposed to wood but it fits me real well and it's quite.
I pretty much build mid range 44mag loads with 8.1grn of H universal clays & Fed lp primers. Although I've never had any problems with Rem. brass I did notice the velocity went up by 34.4fps with Starline using the same crimp. I can only assume the thickness of the case created a differant burn...
My Ruger Bisley Vaquero with 4 5/8" barrel will shoot 3/4" groups at 20 yards with 240grn. Oregon Trail 240 grn. RNFP or SWC bullets, 8.1grn. Universal Clays and Fed 150 primers in Starline brass. It chronographs at 1039fps.with a 12.6sd. It chronographs 310 OT w/gc and Speer 240 Gold Dots...
I carry a ruger sp-101 concealed. if i'm in the city it's loaded with speer gold dot "short barrel" ammo, but out on the hiking trail it's loaded with federal cast core ammo which can also be used to penetrate a car door or window if needed. I carry the one extra reload in an old leather...
My pet load is a 52grn A-MAX,26grn H-Varget,Fed205 primer in Rem brass,2.26col. It cronographs at 3079 fps,11.3 sd. and groups at 1/2moa. I shoot a T/C carbine,1in 14 twist,24"barrel
