    New old toy

A long time ago a cigar box was the perfect place for odds and ends and trivia that while not usually valuable was still worth retaining. Well, I'd been asking about a certain cigar box for a while. It had been passed from relative to relative and I thought it was gone. But I was wrong.:D...

    Shooting WWII handguns

Went to the range today, brought several WWII guns 1944 Browning High Power, 1918 Erfurt P08, 1942 VIS 35 Radom, 1944 BYF P38, and a 1944 Remington 1911A1. Target distance was 30'. I was using 3x5" index cards with a sticky for targets. To set a baseline for my shooting I took...

    Shooting a Type 99 Arisaka

Went to the rage again today, brought a couple of old guns. Just for fun I decided to see how a Type 99 Arisaka would hold up next to a 1903 Springfield. The Type 99 is an early war gun, the Springfield was rebarreled in 1942. Both are in as issued condition. Appearance wise they are...

    Old school .22s

These were sent to me last week from my 96 year old uncle. Said he wanted to keep them in the family Model 61 Winchester .22 magnum Both appear unfired, he got them in the late 1950s or early 60s.

    Went to the range today

Took a couple of old guns along. We hear/read a lot about German and US military rifles but the Imperial Japanese rifles tend to not get near the attention. So for fun I brought a Springfield 1903 and a Type 99 for comparison. General view: The Type 99 is an early war version, the 1903 is...

    .308 Garand

I have the option to acquire an Springfield Garand. Its overall very good condition, haven't fired it but have disassembled it and all the parts are there and it functions as should ( I have two and shoot them regularly). The serial number is a 1820xxx. The gun has been rebarreled in .308. On...

    Worst brass destroyer

I thought my Galil was the worst with the dent in the side but I just ran 40 rounds through a CETME. Fluted chamber, looks like pliers were used for an extractor. The gun ran great but its definitely for my end of the line brass.

    .223 problem

I've been reloading about seven years. Can't remember when I fired the last store bought round in a dozen or so calibers. This has me stumped. I got a ATR-1 FAL in .223. It will chamber and fire Wolf and Frontier ammo. But, if I resize the my once fired cases so it they hold the bullet (62g...

    Done for the year

Three does and two bucks. Just wacked a large four pointer about an hour ago, he's gutted and cooling in the garage. I guess I'm done for this season. First year hunting with a 1950 FN Mauser in 30-06. Using a 180g soft point. Drops them. Happy New Year! This is the gun

    Upgraded to 30-06,

Using 180g soft points. Had been using 150g soft point in 30-30. Killed two deer yesterday, it was if the hand of God reached down and slapped them. Bang - dead, bang - dead. Distance was about 125 yds. Could have got a third one but didn't want to have to deal with three at a time. Stalk...

    Marlin 336 problem

Just got a pre safety 336, won't feed correctly. Problem is the carrier isn't lifting the round up high enough to feed. Ends up short stroking against the chamber face. Suggestions? Thanks Rgg

    .45 acp lead bullets problem

I get a couple or so thousand lrn 230g bullets whenever a decent deal comes by. My last purchase was through an individual on line. Looked good, lubed, gas check. I shoot them in a Colt series 80, a Remington 1911A1, and a FEG. Load is 5g of Red Dot. This bunch were causing feeding problems. Had...

    Time to reorder/options?

Considering two options. I'm about to drop about $1200 in my next components order. Am considering taking the same money and getting into casting. Figure I can get a nice set up for about half that then spend the rest on molds, primers and powder. Will need molds for .9mm, .38/357, .40, .45...

    Berry's .30 bullets

I tried them with a 30-06 and 46g of IMR4895 - disaster. Were not as bad in my 30-30 but still way too hot. Shotgun patterns if they hit paper at all at 100 yds. Found an old cast lead book from the 1970s that had a 150g lead bullet load for 30-06 using 14g of red dot. Should do about...
